all inclusive resort
In may the wife and I will be married 5 years and want to take a vacation. We've thought of the redwood forrest, grand canyon, vegas, etc. We decided since its just us we will leave sightseeing out. I've looked online for resorts and there are tons. Were thinking a beach with pools and good food and pleanty of drinks. Neither of us have a passport and I'm not sure I want to get one, I think this might be the only time I use one. Any recomendations on places you've been? They all clain to be the best but word of mouth can't lie.

Sandal's!! In one word; AMAZING. Food is fabulous, drinks are top shelf and not watered down, service I don't think can be topped. Don't know what your hang up is about getting a passport, but it's pretty hassle free and worth the cost. If you're swinging for an all inclusive resort, I'd think you can spare the money for a passport. We went to one in Jamaica back in March. We want to try a different location next time, but it will be a Sandal's again.

We went to Sandals Nassau this year. It was AWESOME. If you go hungry it's your own fault. We had more food and drink than we could handle. I would highly recommend going. The wife and I are going to go back, but probably not for another year or two. We've grown accustomed to a high level of service and that costs a good bit of money. The cheaper rooms are just as nice and you get almost all of the restaurants as the higher level rooms, but no butler services. None of the restaurants are bad.

As I explained to a buddy of mine. He drives to the Keys every year. He spends about 200-300 for the room per night, plus food and any drinks they have. At the Sandals we stayed, the cheap rooms are $520 (cheaper inclusives can be found) per night for a couple. Food for them runs about 80-100 per day. So he spent anywhere between 300-400 per day just on room and board for the bates motel eating at the IHOP and Burger Barn. At Sandals (and I'm sure with most inclusives) dining was top notch and the cheap rooms are very nice. The wife and I are not big drinkers, but we put away our share of alcohol. So in the end, yes Sandals would have been slightly more expensive than an economy vacation, but we ate at top notch gourmet restaurants, drank top shelf booze, and had a very nice room. The meals we ate would have easily cost over $200 per day if we had to pay for them and drinks would have easily cost between $100-$200. The biggest difference between what he pays and what we would have paid for the cheap rooms is in travel. We paid roughly $400 for tickets to our destination. He pays $80 for gas.
