Mardi Gras help

A couple of friends of mine and I are trying to decide if we want to make it down this year. One of the guys has gone before, but this is the first time for me. We want to have a great time but we can't spend much more than a few hundred a piece. If any of you from NAWLINS can maybe give us some help with lodging suggestions or just general tips, I would appreciate it. Anyone know of someone with an extra room they want to rent out?
The only catch is that we want to be within a mile or two of bourbon street cause we don't want to do any driving, if you know what I mean.

Thanx,
Ox

Make your reservations early!!!

Me, my wife, and some friends finally
wised up and made reservations
early about two years ago. We hopped
the train from Jackson, and took a cab
to our hotel near the quarter. Everything
was within walking distance. It was the
perfect trip! Hit a restaraunt, hit a bar,
hit another restaraunt, hit another bar, and
so on. Stagger back to the hotel, sleep till
mid-afternoon and start all over. This was
the first trip we actually planned out, and
it turned out much better than previously
"spontaneous" trips. Down one of those
hurricanes for me! Woohooo!!!!

If someone tells you "I bet you $____.00 I know where you got your shoes" tell them you are a local, and know the game. (They will tell you the name of the street you are on like 'you got 'em on Bourbon Street', and expect you to pay them the money!)

The other suggestion I have for you is:

www.mardigras.com

www.nola.com

It is probably too late to get a hotel near the quarter. The west bank isn't too bad in distance depending on where you stay (until it's late at nite/morn and you wanna get to the other side). N'awlins in on the east bank. Gretna (west bank) is closest. Don't go as far as Harvey, that's too far. Metairie (East bank) is a decent distance too. I tell you all this thinking that it's just too late to get a room in the quarter. Be careful when baring any skin, they are pretty stringent on the new laws about it. And N'awlins police aren't the straightest knives in the drawer.

Good luck, and enjoy! If you have time, try to go to Biloxi. There are alot of great casinos there! And it's alot cleaner, too!

Let me know what you come up with, and how it went!

I've been to Nawlins many times, including living in the quarter for five weeks once! That was a major test on the brain, lol! There is also a guy who will try to bet you that he can jump over backwards and land on his feet again. Don't bet him, HE CAN! There are some nice hotels in the quarter, do your research, and make your reservations EARLY. The French Market Inn is a decent one, 501 Decatur. It's right on the River. I'll try to talk to some friends and see where else we've stayed. It's a blur now, LOL!,,,,,98

Take your camera, and you can start your own website, HEHEHE!!

It's not as "elegant"(pricey) as they make it out to be, but it's a great place to sleep it off,,,,,98

All hotels will be at full rate, sad but true

Thanks all,

We found an apartment for rent close to the quarter that we are trying to strike a deal on. Hopefully we will work something out. I have done a lot of looking around the area for hotels and I am not coming up with much. It isn't lookin good. I guess I can always sleep in the truck!!

The Royal Sonesta!?! Nice choice!! Ricks Cabaret is an all female club, they have one here in Houston, too. I was just joking with you about the $99 a night. You can spend that much there in one night, EASILY!,,,,98

RE: BEADS

Take the LARGEST beads you can find. Not large in length, but more like a BULB than a bead. You trade them for "things to see", as I'm sure your friend that has been to Mardi Gras has already told you.

Follow Dan's advice: Do NOT get arrested.

Keep your cash seperate from your wallet. Better yet, keep your wallet in a FRONT pocket if you must take a wallet. Pick-pockets galore will be out in force.

If you plan to partake in some of the local girls, TAKE CONDOMS with you. And USE THEM!

I'd like you to have a hurricane for me as well. I am 9 mos pregnant and haven't had a drink in an even longer time frame!

i thought it was like a gay club or something. now im not that happy that i missed it. 100 bucks goes fast. a freind told me dont leave with out one of the lucky dogs. i dont remember the exact price for some dizzy reason, but it was like 4-5 bucks for one. i got up to the room and my mouth was watering and guess what it was a hot dog just like i could have made in a pot and water. i could have had 8 hot dogs and buns for that. one place i went to eat it was not even that great but it was like $30 for me to eat and a coke was like 4 and it was in a cup just a little bigger than a dixie cup. WTF but i did have a good time
