She said, "Oh, that's skilled labor."
My buddy got upset and told her I worked right beside him on the assembly line.
He told her that he stitched them up and all I did was put them on my head and say,
"Diesel fitter!"

Thanks for the replies. I feel the same as many of
you. I've had my current job of teaching social studies
for 7 years. I'm really starting to get unhappy now. I
think it's more burnout than anything. I just feel it's time
for something new. I am so jealous of some of you guys,
I can't imagine going to a job I love everyday. It must be
wonderful.
I must say this, there is certainly a varied group of jobs
represented on F150online. Pretty cool!

But as you reach middle age, the Self, the life spark within you, begins to make the true needs of the whole person known. You begin to experience this as depression (mild or otherwise), loss of energy and lethargy, a disgust or disdain for what you currently do, and for some people, somatic illness that ranges from ulcers to much worse.
According to Jung, the key to finding real satisfaction in the second part of your life is to discover the inner Self, and this is done through active imagination, dream analysis, therapy (no - it doesn't mean you are broken), and conversations with real friends who know your traits... who can help discover what really motivates you.
Those who are lucky are able to line up what they do for a living with what the Self wishes to do. Those less fortunate must continue to earn a living, but can express the Self in other ways... a longshoreman has written extensively about spirituality for example... his Self's desire. Those least lucky never discover what the Self wants.
Interesting book: "Creating a Life" by James Hollis... available at Jungian bookstores and probably Amazon.
PS: I don't like what I do either, but since starting on this journey of self discovery
a) I'm more wrapped up in trying to find out what I want to do next instead of concentrating on what is wrong with what I do now
b) Having a job that permits me to search for something new aint so bad either.
Good luck... I hope you find your calling... I'm still searching... but at least now I'm convinced it can be found.

I like my Job - for the most part. I work for a 3PL (Third Party Logistics Provider); basically I design and implement JIT (just-in-time) inbound transportation networks for a major automotive manufacturer. I really enjoy what I do, however, I constantly feel that I am overworked, underpaid, and under appreciated by both my employer and our customer!

I have no idea!
Since today was my first day I couldn't tell you! I THINK I like it!
After 26 years of being an IV/Pharmacy tech, along with 4 years of chemo experience I went TOTALLY out of my field & am now a Customer Service Rep for Wells Fargo Home Mortgages. I was burned out in pharmacy & was tired of becoming attached to my patients only to lose them. After losing my Dad to cancer I knew it was time for a change. Also, in NYS pharmacy techs are NOT recognized. Our "official" title is "Unlicensed Personell" so that shows how UNAPPRECIATED we are. There is no standardized training, National Certification is not recognized or rewarded! If I took a job in a drug store it would pay minimum wage! A hospital pays a little better but then I would be back to weekends, holidays & swing shift - did that for 8 years & I got out. Actually, this new job is starting at what I was making in my last job & in 30 days I get a $1/hour raise plus hourly incentives for showing up on time & not calling in! LOL - I get to work anywhere from 30 min to 1 hour early anyhow - even w/o an incentive! Did I mention the sign on bonus?
All in all I like the job - at least my first day wasn't bad & I hope to find the job easier as time goes on! Oh - I can apply to become a trainer too! That would be my goal - off the phones & getting paid to talk & talk - ALL day long!

Finally found my place in life
Put me in the "like my job" column. We have a whopping 9 people in our company, so it's not very big but we have a good time. I tell the boss he's going to have to fire me to get rid of me.
Trapper,
I've learned in life that if nothing else happens I'm going to be happy. If it means changing jobs, so be it. Life's too short to be miserable. Live it up!

I love my career! There are some days that I wish I did not have to get out of bed, or things will happen that will make me wonder what I was thinking when I started down this road, but I have never regretted it. I think it hurts my social life in some ways, like when people find out what I do for a living their whole demeanor changes. I have lost a lot of friends and gained new ones in the process. I love the job because of its variety, something new everyday and it never ceases to amaze me when the things that I just never in a million years would expect to happen; happen.
I am not saying that I do not have bad days, or days that I get frustrated or down about something I have seen or experienced; but as a whole it is very fulfilling for me. I may change my tone as I get older and a little more jaded, but right now I love it and would not want to do anything else.

Great topic!
This is so cool! I'm getting to know everyone so much better! And it seems everyone has interesting professions too!
Nonsequitur - you didn't say what it is you do! If you don't mind my asking, what is your job? I promise it wouldn't make me like you any less - I think you always have interesting posts!

Thank you Nonsequitur!
Well, I don't think you'll find many people here who DON'T respect what you do Nonsequitur! For the majority of the people here we really appreciate the job you do & respect the badge. I admire your dedication & especially since 9/11 I can't say thank you enough to people who are in law enforcemnt, firefighting, EMS & of course the military!
