Air horn in a SUPERCREW

Hey guys,

How hard is it to wire up an air horn in my truck? Can I just connect it to the + wire of one of the current horns, and then ground the other wire? I want to do it as such that I dont have to have a separate switch for the air horn.....

thanks,
Wes

Air Horn

Wes,

it depends on the type of air horn you are planning to install. The FIAMM and HELLA air horn kits are usually run by a direct drive compressor, that basically runs the instant you apply power to it and pushes air to the horns.

A Hadley kit (which I have in my Expy) will run a compressor to fill an air storage tank, that will release air to the horns via an electronically activated solenoid kit (or if you prefer a big rig type lanyard). I have the Hadley kit set up to work off of my regular horn...you can add a switch in between to disable the air horn and use only the factory horn (it is suggested that ***** the factory horn and the air horn be connected to work together, but you'll never hear the factory horn over the Hadley).

What I did to accomplish this was basically tap into the wire that powers the factory horn, and used that to activate (open) the solenoid to release the air from the storage tank to the air horns.

Hope that helps!

here's some more details on the install and a link to pics.

The Hadley's are nice, nice and loud. Our FL has 2 of them, and you can hear them miles away.

I want some that sound like the deep low tones of big rigs. seems the square Hadley horns are best for this tone?
