Post Texas Off Road Rally May 20th

Mudder, Dave, and Ed keep saying we need to go offroading again, and I've decided
it'd due time to go too. I've picked the weekend and three locations to choose from so
if you want to go, speak up and let your voice be heard.

1) Clayton OK-- Ok, this kind of kills the "Texas Off Road Rally" name, but this is
considered some of the best offroading in the Central US. I've never been on the trails
there, but from what I've heard, there are mild trails that the 2X4s wouldn't have a
problem with, to ones that even the best built trucks have a hard time on.

2) Shiloh Ridge-- http://www.shilohridge.com/ -- Shiloh Ridge may be the best choice for a place to go. It's private land in Alto (east) Texas and is less than 100 miles from the major Texas cities, and also close for out LA neighbors. I've never been to this area, but have heard a lot about it from the 4X4 club I'm in. There are trails, as well as 3 (I think) man maid mud bogs. They also have camp sites available.

3) North Padre Island-- This is a National Seashore, and the off roading consists of
driving on the beach. Depending on the tide, and recent weather conditions you can
make it most of the way down the island in 2wd. At high tide you are forced to drive in
the soft sand which does require 4wd (you could maybe get by with 2wd, a locker and
a strap)

So, which will it be guys? May 20 is my birthday and I'll be going somewhere
(presents are incuraged, but not required). I think Shilo Ridge would probably be best
for the group, but if y'all decide not to go, I'll be on Padre Island.

I'm in, just made sure I could go and I can. Let's do Shiloh Ridge. Come on Dave and Ed, we know you wanna go. Clear your schedules, it's time to get muddy. We might make a little rally out of this, since it's not to far away.

Looks like two votes for Shiloh Ridge.

If you don't have a 4X4 that dosn't mean you can't come out for this rally too. You can come out and see how your stock, or lifted, 2X4 will do in the dirt. If you're dropped, I've got one seat I'm offering for a ride along, and I'm sure the other 4X4s will offer rides too.

In the evening we can sit around a camp fire (or Mr. Daylighter), talk trucks and drink adult beverages (sounds more exciting than sitting around a parking lot). Then spend the night camping out.

Don't know about y'all, but it sounds like a good time to me.

Here is a responce I got from Shiloh Ridge. I'm having him double check the date. I thought the TX4X4 event was planed for the following weekend.

Steve,
May 20 falls on a race weekend for us but you might enjoy watching the races or some of you might like to race. We have a 300ft. sand drag track and will race any thing you want to run. Unless things change Tx. 4x4 will be here that weekend as well. If you want camping sites with water and ele. you
need to make resvations in advance. or if you know a site with just water that you would like the same applies.Camping Ele./Water 15.00 a night with just water 10.00 a night 10.00 per truck per day and a 5.00 per day rider fee.( if you bring 10 or more off road trucks it will be 30.00 per truck this covers your camping and riding for the weekend ) please let me know what date you decide on ( this weekend will be busy ) Kelly

UPDATE
It turns out that the TX4X4 club changed the date for their run to the weekend of the 20th too. I am a member of this club and have talked to the person organizing this run, and we are welcome to tag along, or we can do our own thing. These guys know the trails out there and are planing a poker run on Sat.. You can see the information on thir run at http://members.aol.com/atc1man/beaum...orial-day.html
Speak up if you are interested in attending this rally so I can get a rough head count.
