3 quick questions about Audiophile w/ aftermarket HU...
I learned a TON from the search function, but I have 3 specific questions! Here they are:
1. ASSUMING (I know, bad idea) I can use an aftermarket in-dash screen or double-din screen with my audiophile system in my 08 FX4, can I simply buy the harness many of you have suggested and be ready to go?
2. I have the AUX input on top of the dash. Will this no longer be functional with the aftermarket HU? I'm guessing the aftermarket HU will have an AUX input in the front or rear of HU if the factory input no longer works?
3. Is there a kit I can buy to keep using the steering wheel controls? Someone posted a link in a post I found for some kind of kit, but the link was dead.
Thanks guys! I love my audiophile system, but i want to add an in-dash/double-din screen and still be able to plug in my iPod via an AUX input!

If you rarely listen to CDs then why bother with the Audiophile system? I have two openings in my HU. One is the nav disc and the other is the cd tray. I don't listen to CDs all that often so one disc doesn't bother me.
You can buy head units out there that will have one disc for cd, satellite setup, and all the ipod options you can think of.
My next purchase is the Kenwood. My stereo guy has a setup with one of those where he has a large capacity external hard drive hidden and wired into the truck. That Kenwood (I don't know which model) can control everything on that hard drive.
If the tax return looks good that's what will be going in around March.......Hopefully

Hmm
Maybe I'm confused. I thought the Audiophile system was upgraded speakers the factory subwoofer and amp under my backseat. My purpose to to keep everything from the factory and just install an in-dash or double din screen. I would also like to keep using my steering wheel controls. Thanks.

You can do that as well. Just on a quality stand point it's better going after market. I had an Eddie Bauer that had the best system Ford put in them and I was pretty disappointed when looking at the quality of the material. It didn't sound bad though.
That being said, you can pretty much hook anything up; at least to my knowledge. One time I had a work truck where I did the most ghetto self install stereo job. It had a crappy factory single cd already so I added an amp and door speakers. It wasn't near the kind of quality I like but for a work truck it was pretty bad ***.
A couple years back I looked into getting steering wheel controls with a unit I was buying. If I remember correctly, there is an adapter for it but the one I was being told about wouldn't work with everything that the controls would do. Sadly, I can't remember what option they were talking about. Sorry
