Watch DVDs while in drive

I'm considering buying a Kenwood DDX514 DoubleDin Head Unit for my '05 Screw and I read that you can only watch DVDs while in park. Is there anyway to bypass this?

watching movies while driving is illegal had to do it

you can wire a switch up to the wire out of your Headunit that is suppose to go to your parking brake

you take a pass thru switch, you run the Parking brake wire from the headunit to one side of the switch and a a wire out the other side of the switch and ground to a metal surface so then you can flip the switch and it thinks you have the parking break engaged so you can watch movies at anytime moving or not
hope this helps

instead of a switch could you just run it straight to a ground?

yes but some new head units require that you set the parking brake, take it off, and then set it again.. check the manual.. if thats the case you need a switch

Any tips on a Clarion VZ409? Just ordered one for the daily driver. Looking to do this mod. I'm hoping grounding the brake wire works. :o - Og

I did a quick search for you Og (home sick from work) and came up with conflicting reports, some people saying ground the parking brake wire, others saying you need a toggle switch. :o

Thanks, Stealth! I'll try the grounding first, then the switch if needed. Feel better, dude. - Og

I have the Kennwood also, and with nav. All you need to do is cut the wire at the splice that goes to the parking brake and ground it somewhere else. Problem solved. If I remember it was a green wire. I did it a couple days after I had it installed by pro's. I don't watch while driving, but its nice that you don't have to use the brake. I have a picture of mine.

I've got a Kenwood DNX5120 and we just grounded the parking brake wire in my 06 Lariat and it works fine. Watch while u drive? Not me, but like you say, for my passengers it's nice - same as you - can't afford the headrests screens right now.

FYI you probably voiided any type of warranty you had on the install by doing that.

If your not going to watch it while driving then whats the point?

I just used a relay to disable the viewing during motion.
