Removing sync - question

Removing sync - question
I am getting some mixed information on the subject.
If I want to get rid of Sync, do I still need any sort of special harness to instal the new head unit? I have read that some people have lost the dimmer capability and the RAP function (retain accessory power - power is on until the door is opened) when putting in a new head unit.
I have no clue how these two things would be related, but figured i would ask.
Also, if I remove Sync, I would be removing the 3.5mm line in and USB portion near the cigarette lighter, however I have only seen kits that have this spot open, meaning I would have to keep these ports in order for it to look clean, albeit they would be non functional.
Does anyone make a kit that doesnt have a hole where these ports are?

One, there is no accessory wire in the harness last I checked. It is a CAN driven turn on. You will have to go to the keyswitch or any other switched power supply.
Two, you should not lose dimmer functions throughout the rest of the vehicle.
Three, you do not have to remove the USB plug unless you choose to. Many people will use the USB hole to glue the Pioneer USB in place. Or you can splice into the USB wires to integrate with newer HU's. The 3.5mm normally has to be spliced into to be made functional with newer HU's.
