Speaker Upgrade
Hey All,
Time to upgrade the King Ranch Speakers. I just took a new job where I don't work from home so know I have to drive to work like the rest of the rat racers! I noticed really quickly ( once I got the kids / wife out of the car, cell to stop ringing) that the stock speakers in my King Ranch are pretty weak.
So.....I am going to get some new ones and wanted your opinions. I checked out the speaker forum and got some info, but wanted to know what everyone thought.
From what I have learned we can replace the front speakers with either 5 1/4 , 5 X 7 or 6 X 8 speakers. On the speaker forum they seem to prefer 2 way speaker to 3 or 4 way.
At this point I think I am going to just replace the front speaker.
So let me know what you have done and what you like.
Thanks for your input.

In my former 01, I simply added XM radio along with an XM ready Pioneer head unit. I also added a Clarion Camouflage Subwoofer (which doubled as a schnazzy center console on the hump -- see my mods gallery for photos). From there, I jumped on ebay and bought 'last year's' top end speakers used from a couple of folks who had very good feedback.
I can't remember the model numbers on the speakers but, they were Pioneer and they were 3-ways. The sound quality improvement was pretty remarkable.
I'm far from an 'audio guru' but, the Clarion sub and the Pioneer 3-ways made a WORLD of difference!
You really can upgrade the overall sound for a pretty reasonable price if you go a little less than top-end.

RockPick,
Thanks for the reply. At this point I want to stay with the factory deck since it has the 6 disc changer. I am going to start with front speakers and see what it sounds like. I will probably get new rear speakers as well. A sub will probably be after that.
I want to get a rear camera for backing up eventually so I might just take the plunge and get a new head unit with a LCD built in.
I like the look of that better than the after market mounted LCD.
thanks for youre input
