Just put a 6" lift on w/35's

I've been camped over in the suspension forum for so long, I forgot where I cut my teeth on this website. So now that I got the KR lifted I had to post one here:

Nice setup, what kind of lift you got there? Getting any tire rub?

it's a 6" by RCD. had to trim the black rubber part of the lower valence. it substantially uses the stock suspension, where the factory front springs are reinstalled on a new bilstein strut (shock) up front and then a larger block replaces the factory rear leaf spring block. So, it drives and feels very much like stock. you can feel the height when cornering but not hateful. i am very pleased with it. more pics in my album,

Looks nice. Really like the way the tires look. Might have to get me some. Do they make a lot of noise?

Looks great but you need to put your center caps back on the passenger side

good catch. actually i don't much care for the "flying saucer" center caps, so i'm leaving 'em off the right side till I make up my mind. anyone have an opinion ?

No, barely noticeable at all. you need to make a point to listen for them to hear much of anything. also, they must be balanced nice because like i said above, i forget it's got a lift and new tires under normal driving. It rolls nicely at highway+ speeds. You do feel the mass of the tires when you hit stutter type bumps or pot holes and i'm reminded everythings 8" higher (overall height in front above stock) when I make abrupt steering inputs. i do have a rear helliwig sway bar on, so that helps tighten the handling up. i loved that sway bar when i put it on, but like so many mods, you get use to them after a while and no longer realize the benefit- kinda like marriage !

Doc:

I was thinking about getting a 6 in lift, I already have a 2.5 inch leveling kit on it but would like to go higher . Does this lift wear down the driveshaft or bearings more? I've been told that the lift will void warranty and the wear on the truck is bad? There is probably other parts that the lift wears on I am just forgetting.

Thanks

you need to read and search this site. Lifts certainly are harder on the drive train, brakes, etc, but not to the point of abuse or reliability problems when driven normal. Towing and snow plows, for example, also tax a truck in a similar way, IMHO.
Actually it's been said that a leveling kit is harder on the front axle parts than a 6" lift, since the 6" lift corrects the angles. However, the drive shafts contend with more of an angle with the 6" lift.
There are often trade-offs with any mod, however I'm a very conservative guy and wouldn't consider a mod that leaves me with reliability or operating concerns. As far as the warranty, it's likely a dealer wouldn't warrant a suspension or drive train problem - just as they may decline an emissions problem if you've done a motor / tune mods. There are some dealers that are friendlier to deal with in this respect than others.

Hope this helps - now go make that truck into what you want, but keep reading here and doing your homework.
