How to get rid of orange peel?

I know I can't be the only one completely dissatisfied with the crappy paint job you got on your truck. I have such terrible orange peel it keeps me up at night. Does anyone know how to fix this without having him repainted?

The bottom of the doors are meant to look like that... other than that, I guess you got CRAP JOB OF THE NIGHT paint job from Kansas.

I have a couple of flaws on my paint but, nothing that I'm willing to make them repaint or warranty because I think it'll cause more problems than it's worth.

Sorry bout Tomas's luck.

Well, I don't know how to fix it without repainting, but I do know what your talking about. Mine is pretty bad, but I'm not loosing any sleep over it. I'm more concerned with the clearcoat separating.

Unless you have 12 coats of Enzo's best hand rubber laquer, or a custom paint job, there will be org peel.
Some colors do better at hiding it then others.

If you want to get rid of it, you need to repaint the whole thing at a custom paint shop ( read huge bill ). The process would be to strip it down to the bare metal ( need to get the primer off ) and star over from there. If you notice even the rear panels that are plastic have it.

This is how the paint process works at production places. This is not a flaw in the paint, and will not create a problem ( mention of clear cost seperation ).

RP.....

I'm disappointed in you....

Orange Peel......Tcchhh!!

It is the usual expression car nuts and body shop people use about a poorly applied paint job when the effect is...well....like orange peel basically.
Some colors show it worse than others but even with modern paint techniques many new cars come off the production line with "orange peel "

So there !!!

I wouldn't have accepted the truck in that condition. As a matter of fact, I returned my first truck the next day because of a paint flaw on the driver's side rear door. I demanded a new truck since I wanted a pristine one that didn't have any body work done on it before it left the dealer. They obliged, and my truck was only pristine for 6 months. Oh well, at least it lasted that long.

actually, i saw the cars at the la auto show, even enzo had some orange peel. you can color sand the clear but then you will ve a much thinner clear which you will need to re shoot and rub out again. it can be done but not cheaply.

yall are some non knowing about paint people.....after EVERY paint job, custom or factory there is orange peel, in a body shop they will "Color Sand" the area they painted thus eliminating the orange peel....the process involves
A. Wet sanding w. 1000grit paper followed by 2000grit until the paint is smooth
B Buffing the entire sanded area w/ either a fine or medium grit compound to desired smoothness.
C Buffing with polisher to finishe off the shine

This is usually a FULL DAY process for someone who does it for a living......

wow, just because we didn't list some of the steps does not mean that we don't know about orange peel and that it exists nearly everywhere. quite offensive.

Just let it pass.....stiring the pot only brings the $h!t to the top.
Just click on the profile button, and select ignore for members that do this type of thing.

Best thing to do, that way when a member that does this stuff asks a question, it gets a high and dry from those who do put him on the ignore list.
Enough people put him on their ignore list, and that member gets little help for a question.
There are ways of delivering critisim, one is on a silver platter, one is on a harpoon. Guess which way will be better recieved <g>

Funny enough, the org peel can start at any layer, not just in the color stage, same with a paint run, can happen any where.
If you try to take a run out, you may find that it happened in the primer stage.
Wet sanding a run smooth can lead to a run mark that is primer color ( and now at the same layer as the clear coat ).
