Saw this on SHM's site looks kinda cool. Even has a oil drain back for those of us with the oil getting into the intake problem.

That looks pretty interesting!

I wonder if that would really work? If so I would buy one just for the oil coming into the intake alone! the extra 4.5 quarts of oil capacity is pretty nice too!

anyone use one of these yet?

Looks like a nice lower cost alternative to the Canton pans. This one might actually not leak too. Has Milodon come out with one yet? Anyone see any clearence issues with this?

More than likely the oil drain back plug is for the paxton or vortech centrifical superchargers. Not the eaton.

Maybe, but boost is boost.

I don't think the moroso pan is going to know if I have a eaton, vortech, or paxton blower on my truck.

Joe your Eaton has a pressurized oiling system? LOL That front port on the pan is for blowers that do and that is where the return oil line goes..

But you are right because you would just leave it plugged...The Eaton don't care...

I belive its there for a Vortech or Paxton type blower but I was thinking you could route a line down to the pan to drain a baffle system to keep oil from comming into the intake system. I know they have systems simmiller to this in some large tractor deisels.

Did you have to pull the engine to install it?

The shop manual says that the engine must be loosened and raised with a hoist to change the oil pan. True?

Important note: I do not think the pan pictured is the 10qt drag race pan, as it appears identical to Moroso's 7 qt 4.6/5.4 street/strip pan. I would expect the new drag race pan to lose substantial ground clearance--the 3 extra quarts have to be somewhere, and the somewhere must mean a deeper sump than the one pictured.

This is the response I received from SHM:

===============================

The Moroso pan would technically work for your application, however, it was specifically designed for drag racing. I spoke with Sean and we both feel the Canton would be the one to use in your application. Thanks for the inquiry.

Seasons Greetings

Subject: 10 qt 4.6/5.4 pan

Do you have any dimensional info? Part number? Any additional parts needed? I can’t find any info on the Moroso site.

I have a 2002 Lightning. Mostly autocross/road race. Just cancelled an order for a Canton road racing pan (7 qt, T sump). I wonder if this new product will offer greater capacity.

I am already doing a remote oil filter, so don’t worry about filter clearance issues.

Couldn't this front port also be used to accept a drain line from an oil separator?

how often do you have to change your oil if you use a deep pan like that? seems an extra 4.5 quarts is quite a bit...any other advantages besides the intake protection? (Guessing cooler temps maybe?)

I don't know how you would change the pan w/o removing or at least lifting the engine.

Probably best done at engine upgrade time. Would be very difficult to do with the engine in place.
