New Lightning Concept to Debut

Ah yes...I see the trend starting, first it's a little comment that the Ford may be slipping in the performance arena then someone starts a thread on the boards and next thing you know the Lightning has gone the way of the Pinto...
***** it!
I know what my rear wheel HP is and I'm not worried about my trucks reputation, anywhere!

As an extended cab truck in 04, it will weigh in at least 800 pounds more than the current truck and at only 450 horsepower it will be slower than the current truck and will not handle as well. In short, a step backward.
Geez, the thing hasn't even been built yet and you have already deemed it for mediocrity. Give it a chance. With 70 more horses, and who knows what it will actually weigh (technology has allowed manufacturers to make parts much lighter), the performance with an extended cab could actually be much better than the current Lightning. Their has also been a lot of new suspension ideas the last few years, and by 2004, they could have developed a new system that will make it much better handling than it is now. I guess my point is, wait until it's built before you pass judgement.

the 02 screw HD only weighs a little more than 600 lbs than the L and thats a hell of alot heavier than an extended cab.
who says it will even have rear seats or any of that. i've been reading on here it will have 2 smaller rear doors which will make it an extended cab, but it will only be really tiny, like no seats back there, rear windows won't roll down, so it won't be all that much heavier. and who knows what materials the truck will be made out of. like said above don't be so quick to go and judge
get pleny of pics guys! i'm sure it won't make its way down to the philly auto show. we usually just get the leftovers and the carry overs from the 02 auto show. lol

independent rear suspension actually sounds a bit odd for a truck, but its definately beleivable, look at the new explorer's and escapes. plus I beleive i've seen independent rears on ford trucks before, not sure if they were aftermarket or what, but i remember seeing them.
btw,,,, ford has been experimenting with extended cab L's for a while now, when I was 17 in a wendy's parking lot I saw an extended cab roush test L of some sorts,, lightning badges and all the body armor and test gauges,,, it was way cool.

Will the next gen L be on the same wheelbase as now, using a smaller bed?
