was just wondering... I know she has a ton of tourque but she wasnt so mean without the chip. So is it common to catch a hard shift on accident every now and again at low speed? Like I said I think Im just goosing her and she doesnt like to be teased...or something

Speaking of torque, how did most of you go about installing your VB. What kind of torque wrench did you use? I noticed you need a FT LBS in Inches? Wtf?

nah ****, you need an inch pounds torque wrench, i think the spec is like 15 inch-pounds or something? correct me if I'm wrong guys. I just used a nut driver so I wouldn't have enough leverage to overtighten them, and put them to where the factory ones felt like when I removed them.

True, but he is right.......you also need a ft-lbs wrench to tighten the trans pan bolts.

You need an inch-lb torque wrench for the VB bolts and nuts. I believe it's 80-100 inch lbs. Some people use a ft-lb equivalent, but it's not as accurate at such a low setting. If the torque is off, it can make the truck shift either too hard or too soft. Best to use the proper inch-lb torque wrench.

thanks for the clarification Sal, I will probably get an inch-pound torque wrench and drop the pan down and recheck the VB bolts just to be safe. after all, its easy with the drain plug in the 4x4 pan!

I did mine with a 1/4" rachet. They were tight as hell comming out so I put them back in as tight as I could get them with the small rachet. Mine has worked perfect. Maybe I just got lucky.

Hmmmm.....thats interesting because I just put mine in a couple weeks ago and it seems that the 2-3 shift is always much harder than the 1-2. My truck is all stock. Don't get me wrong, when I get on it, the 1-2 breaks loose. Right now I have ford f150 31" tire on for winter so it is not a true test I guess. Also, when the truck is cold, it shifts kinda soft (which is good i guess) until it warms up. The weird part is, 3rd is sometimes not consistent and depending on how you accelarate form a light under normal throttle, the 2-3 is generally harder...not violent, just harder. Seems sometimes it is just right, other times it seems to jerk...especially at lower speeds say in stop and go traffic and it shifts into 3rd at say 25mph. Is that normal?

I see you are from Boston, I have a shop in area, if you want you can use a lift and torque wrench of mine at my shop. We are almost always there late doing mods. If this helps shoot me an e-mail for info, glad to help a fellow owner.

The valve body is 80-100 inch/pounds, which owrks out to about 8 ft/lbs, but better to use the in/lb wrench. The pan is 11 ft/lbs +/- 1 and is critical, the #14 pan bolt is very easy to strip.

The soft shift when cold is programmed in, until you get the fluid in the box up to 90 degrees, it runs a different program, routs the fluid through a cooler bypass and prevents converter lockup.

Hope this helps,

G

Pick one up or try to borrow someone elses, installed 2 valve bodies, first one with the foot/lbs, second with the the correct inch/lbs. Let me tell you with the correct wrench its soooo much faster and easier, and you dont get the constant stress of "did I torque them all correctly?"

I second Gregs customer service, its awesome, and he truly stands behind his name and his product
