Photochop Time: 2005 L (alternate version)
A lot of people love/hate the new F150 design and Lightning concept, so I decided to try my hand styling an alternative Lightning based on another concept released a long time ago. This one has a more "classic" shape, one that retains the muscular bulges and curves of the Gen 2:

Concept Lightning
I've seen that Concept Lightning in a few magazines.
Now if Ford decided to release that maybe as a Gen 4 or 5, I would definitely try to get one, but as long as they have the Gen 3 lightning coming out (even though it's still under the concept category), Sorry, I'll stick with saving my pennies for the 2005 Mustang (which will go into launch Spring/Summer 2004).
Sorry guys, I'd rather hold onto my 2002 Sport 4X4 SCAB 5.4L.
They took all the appeal away from the L. It is so square and bulky, I'd hate to see what the Wind Tunnel results were for that Concept, not that the Gen 2's have much more sleek design, but I think they could have done better.
I love the current lightnings (Gen 2), but with a family, not saying my 4X4 SCAB is a family car, but it wouldn't have been feasible, (even tho the wifey said I could get whatever I wanted, an L or an HD!).
But I talked her into the 2005 'Stang!!!
I'll keep my fingers crossed on that one!!!
So that is a good possibility if the price is not outrageous.

Thanks for the feedback. Some of these photochops came out **** poor, but I'm too tired to fiddle with them anymore (and it's not that important anyway - just trying to illustrate what's possible).
It's obviously too late to influence the next Lightning, Ford has already committed to the boxier styling of the 2004 F150. But my plan is to try a "softer" Lighting concept based on the actual 2004 F150 design to see if a different approach looks as good. That will be a better exercise because we know the 2004 F150 basic design is set in stone now. Maybe if there's enough interest, aftermarket body panels can be made to replace the factory Lightning pieces. Or they can be part of the next "Boss" appearance package... LOL! Since I'll be in Vegas over the next week for CES, I probably won't be able to work on it until I come back. But stay tuned...

IzzyEddy, you are correct, my photochops are based on that same concept (my original post links to the photo I used as reference). But if you compare them side by side, you'll see I took quite a few liberties and carried the idea further to include a Lightning-like version. My humble enhancements only make the original look more aggressive, but it looks good to us because it literally takes us back to our roots. Just trying to help visualize what might have happened to the L had Ford not chosen to go down the sharp, edgy direction in design for their latest F150.
