Wink

FXDX,
Yeah, I don't care for the looks of the Thunder Header much either. But as far as sound and performance gains it is a good pipe.
It sounds like you have a pretty fun ride there yourself.

Yea hd,

The engine work definately put the grin factor in this bike. It is now as the factory should've made it! Even their CVO bikes are lacking in the performance dept. Since H-D and Ford have formed an alliance, H-D should follow Fords lead and nut-up like SVT! Super high performance at a somewhat affordable price. I love Harleys but don't care much for the MoCo. Too much image and not enough backing for their products and the consumer.

Later,

Mike

actually I was in 3rd gear at approx 90
The bike was a1980 Sturgis, I bought brand new in 1980
ended up just parting out the bike, but kept the rods and cases for paperweights

Lucky for me it snapped the rear belt or it would have been real ugly with the rear tire locked up at 90/100

Yea Gator,

You were fortunate to come out unscathed under those circumstances. Those old Shovels don't like lofty RPMs especially with stock bottom ends, not to mention being on the bottle.

I always thought the Sturgis editions were two of the slickest looking rides ever. Pretty much why I chose my blacked out Super Glide Sport. Closest facsimile I could find in a Twin Cam.

yeah it was a slick looking scooter.
I put the S&S Crank pin, but tried to save a few bucks...haha and ran the stock rods. I found an old photo, me on it the night I bought it! I scanned it, but can't open my photo gallery. Man what a lot of memories.
Iam trying to talk myself into a Road King, but just buying a house and this friggin mod bug for the Lightning, keeps my pockets empty

Gator,

Know whatcha mean 'bout the priorities. Get the house first and hold off on the bike 'til you can swing it. A Road King or most likely an ElectraGlide Standard with chrome powertrain covers on the silver motor is in the works here albeit bumped back a couple more years since the L' aquisition. I'll never part with my hot rod FXDX so trading up is not an option. Just want a Geezer Glide for the longer rides. Once I cherry out the paint on my Super Nova I may just sell it to cover the down payment on the FL. That is if the 'L satisfies my need for four wheel speed!

Lator,

Mike

I can dig it! The fat ones need lovin' too... Bikes and fat fendered rods that is!

What year was your FL? Any pics of it finished?

This cold *** weather is killin' me! Especially what with havin' no heat in the garage and no desire to freeze to death just to go out there and drool.

C'mon springtime!
