If that shock is installed properly, God couldn't break it.

More than likely it is because the stock shockes have the non-threaded end of the stud is longer so you can not get the rubber to tight.Which if you did it would put the shaft in more of a bind due to the lack of 'give' in the rubber.The QA1s' have less non- threaded stud.So if you tighten them down till the nut stops turning you crushed the rubber more and there in lies the problem.Stan

Hey guys there is such a thing as a bad part or bolt or o ring.
I dont care if i am the only one on this ****ing planet that gets them sometimes thats all there is to it.
There is not a lot that can be wrong with the truck, 1" drop and thats all for the rear.

I didnt blame JIM for making the thing i was upset over it happenning agian and there seems to be no reason for it that i or my tech bud can find.
Like JIM said we are far apart or he could tell me exactly whats wrong here.
My truck just might not like em!
Again JIM im sorry for the hassle

If I may interject my thoughts here, I think some people are missing a big part of this. He said the shock was GONE. Not only had it broken at the top of the shaft, but the billet shock body actually CRACKED OFF from the eyelet on the bottom, which was part of the body.

In my opinion, I don't this was caused by upper shaft attachment. The only possible way I can see the shock body snapping off the eyelet is if either- A) the guy is going airborne with the truck and over extending the shock, stressing it (not too likely), or B) the shock is too long, and severely bottoming out when compressed, putting the weight of the truck on both ends of the shock (more likely).

I have a 2" shackle on my truck with the QA1s, with no special mouting or anything, and I have no problems. And I think I launch a bit hard . If this guy only has a 1" drop, and nothing else has been altered as he stated, then that leaves the only logical reason for what's happening is he's getting too long of a shock. Just my thoughts.

STAN you are more than likely right on the money here with the rubber mounts being compressed to much.
I dont remember how tight i got them but its harder than hell to get to that top nut so it couldnt have been that bad.
THIS IS THE FIRST NEGITIVE POST I HAVE EVER MADE AND I SHOULD HAVE KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT TILL I KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON, normaly i would have just choked it down and kept on rolling, but for some reason i was pissing vinigar this morning.

Doesn't everyone have one of those? Ever try to take off
a wheel with the stocker? I have my 4 way tied in the bed ...

White01XXX - we all have our days, at least you apologized which is something thats not very common.

Like Sal brought up though, were is the rest of the shock? Did it break of at the top and bottom just leaving the nuts and bolts behind?

Which is what I stated in my post, along with my guess of how it happened.

Unless the shocks were boxed wrong which I don't think is the case because we had to send you out another one and it matched up. It is definitely the correct length. QA1 only makes two different length bodies that work on our truck, one is an 11 inch body and one is a 10 inch body. The 11 inch body is good up to a 3 inch drop, and the 10 inch body is up to a 4 inch drop. The ones we sent you should've been good up to a 3 inch drop. The easiest way to determine this is to measure how much of the piston sticks out of the shock while the truck is sitting on the ground. Also, measure between the top of your rear housing to the bottom of the bump stops that are mounted on the frame. They are bright yellow. This will help to let you know if your bottoming out the shock. Again, there are only two body lengths, 11 inch and 10 inch. Call me if I can help you further.
