Shipping Wheels/Tires?

Does anyone know of a cost effective way to ship wheels and/or tires?

For the individual I would check out Fedex Ground. They were 50% of the cost on my last shipment of an exhaust vs UPS.

If you have a friend in a business that ships a lot of freight, they will get greatly reduced rates vs an individual.

To get a great estimate from your computer, go here, you will need weight and dimensions:

FedEx groud is a lot cheaper than UPS ground in this case ($30 a wheel vs $45)

I checked and through my office UPS ground was slightly cheaper for wheels only. All depends on the amount of volume the business does.

When I shipped my wheels to Santa Ana to get them chromed I used UPS ground and it was $121 total for all 4 boxes.

UPS cares more about the size of the box then the weight of it. So just make sure you box them as small as possible. I think my boxes were 20" x 20" x 14".

I just bought tires and wheels from the Tire Rack. They are shipped with just cardboard circles covering the wheel faces, with nylon straps holding it all together. Cost just $85 Fed Ex ground from Indiana to California. Tire Rack probably gets a sweet deal, though.

My wheels and tires also came with just cardboard and plastic wrap on them.they were fine though.I actually saved the cardboard circles, cut them to fit over my wheel for when I use Tirefoam.

Our business has a UPS shipping station and we process our own shipments. They dont care about the size of the box, just the weight and location determines the cost. Also, they charge more for residential locations.

When they shipped my wheels, they were wrapped in the soft foam stuff, then the air bubble wrap plastic, then a box, another box, and anothe box. It has been the best shipped Item I've seen. as far as tires being shipped, I got them straight from the goodyear factory, so no shipping.
