Angry $18,000 Wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i went yesterday to the ford dealership to buy an 03. it is the same place where i bought my 01. they had white, black, grey. i wanted the black. we worked out what i thought was a fair price. then they come back to me with a trade in of my 2001 lightning 15000mi perfect condition for $18000 i asked the gm if he was kidding. guess im not going to get the black 03 that i wanted. does anyone else see this as a ridiculous trade in value or is it just me. thanks RYAN

I traded my 01 in with 12,000 miles on it and they gave me $25.500 for it. I think it was because they were not able to get new ones at the time. They sold it back to me for $24,500 after they found out it did not have a powertrain waranty.

ask them if that includes the $5000 "fair market adjustment" most dealers tack on to new vehicles, cause they are, rare, limited prodution, supercars never to be produced again

sorry i just really hate dealers.

just keep the 01, not much difference in that and the 03's anyway.

good luck

Missing some info. The only relevant part in a deal is what is the difference you will be paying for the new truck. It seems like a low offer, but that's typical of any deal. It's up to you to negotiate a deal you can live with, but it has to make sense fo both parties. They would probably give you $28,000.00 for yours if you were willing to pay $38,000.00 for theirs (this isn't actual numbers, but just an example). Another thing to consider is the desirability of the vehicle they are trying to sell. If the market is hot for a particular vehicle, don't expect any great deals. Dealers are usually reluctant to add much incentive on new models. Your best bet would be wait until mid year or later when they are more eager to move the older stock. You guys can hate the dealers all you want, but they are in business to make money, just like the rest of us.

my experience

I was offered $26,000 for my 2002 with 2,200 miles on it.
I was going to trade it in on a 2003 F-250. After the sales guy came back and told me $26,000 and I could see by the look on his face that he had really pissed me off he ran and got the sales manager. The sales manager asked what I wanted for it and I said I would take what Kelly Blue book suggested for a trade in. He left and came back and offered $28,000. KBB trade in is $29,145. I bought the L from this dealership nine mounths ago. I asked for sticker and they agreed. I didn't haggle, the whole process took 45 minutes and I had the funding to pay in full. They told me that it was the easiest sale they ever made.

The F-250 was almost $43,000 out the door with the X-plan and I had funding to pay in full on it as well. They didn't want to play so no F-250 for me.

I now have it up for sale. I'm asking way below KBB private party sale and haven't had anyone come look at it. I've had offers over the phone but have turned them down.

Here is what I see happening. All the people who want a Lightning but can't buy a 03 are trying to buy used at ridiculously low offers are going to get a shock. If they don't get one at the end of the 03 year then they are out of luck unless they plunk down a significantly larger sum of money for a 05. If things go like it looks like Ford is saying there will not be a 04 Lightning and when the 05 come out it will cost a hell of a lot more than the Gen 2 Lightnings and my asking price for my very low miliage 02 will be a deal of a life time.

Ok I vented.
Drive on...

I can see low mileage Gen 2's going for over $30,000 if they really don't make an 04 and the 05's are around $50,000. At that price their probably won't be too many Gen 3"s produced, making them even more valuable. That's why I try to keep my mileage down. Gen 2's with 100,000 miles may not fetch much.

Not a L but if you guys want to hear about a screw job....
A guy I work with bought a new 2002 F150 truck 7 months ago. Sticker was 23 something.
The truck has sit in a garage the whole time he has owned it... it still has all the stickers on the windows and dash.. plastic on the floor/seats... ITS A BRAND NEW TRUCK. It only had 300miles on it the day he took it to the dealer. He wanted to trade it in on a F250. They offered him 11grand for his truck!!!! That was the same dealer he paid 23 grand to 7 months ago when he bought it!

Needless to say he didn't trade the truck. I tell ya, its one thing to make a living selling cars but these people are trying to fu(k him over big time!!
