Lightning vs BMW M3
#16
The NEW M3's are not a joke. They will run 13.3 to 13.4 on average. Evan Smith with MMFF was able to get a 12.99 out of one. I would say if you are a stock Lightning they would be a good match from a slow roll. But as somebody else already mentioned, its all in the driver since they are a 6 speed. Plain truth is MOST people can't drive!!
P.S. I don't think I would hesitate to race one

Im talking about the little tiny *** one with the "vents" in the front fenders. I must have it confused with something else because if you guys are talking about the same car I am then no IM NOT KIDDING! (had to say that since you guys asked me twice) ... Z3 sounds more like it though..the one Im talking about is a 2 door miata sized car with no back seat. I never clame to know my BMWs very well... anyone have a picture?
I dont know about you but every time I race Im ready, I never jump anyone who isnt aware its about to happen..there's no point in even doing that
I never punch it if Im already going that fast...I shy away from that kind of stuff since we are a brick as far as air dynamics go... usually all my races are up to 110 then its shut down time..I have never been above 120mph in it
im just comenting from a real race situation, meaning he KNEW we were gonna race, not just pull up to a guy at a light
I don't know about your truck, but when I punch mine @ 70mph, I am holding on tight to 125/130..

no no no, if you read it we didnt actually race. We were in traffic at about 10-12 mph like I was saying. I was just toying with him so he would look like an ***. I cant resist messing with them if they have their girl with them....guess that makes me an *** ..oh well. Im not some hs kid that goes around thinking Im racing eveyone, I barley street race as it is...I usually just toy with people to get a rise out of them. I dont even run my chip unless Im at the track.
Oh and I went to www.bmw.com to check, I didnt see the car Im talking about but its definilty NOT and m3..that thing looks like a sedan from the one pic i saw from the front

Its all good brotha..
yeah, the Z3 has been replaced with the 3.0L (330engine) new Z4.. weird lines, but pretty quick.
Looks 1,00000000000000000 times better then the Z3!

My neighbor just bought a 2001 Z3. It's the 'Miata'-sized coupe. He took me for a ride the other day and laid down some rubber. He needs to turn the traction-control(?) off or he won't be able to drag race it as well with it off. He also missed a shift so that's to your advantage.
They are very quick(0-60=5.x seconds). It's got a 'big' inline 6 cyl. with a th/body for each cyl. It does have a back 'seat'--very tiny but it's there.

Results from an M Coupe and L owner
I can share a little insight into this - I own both a 2002 BMW M Coupe (the little "shoe" coupe, yes) and a 2001 Lightning. Pics of both in my sig ("The Stable")
The new M3 and the 2001 and 2002 M Coupe + M Roadster get the S54 inline 6. This motor puts out 333hp in the M3...315hp in the Coupe and Roadster. Difference? Nada...same motor. BUT the M Coupe and M Roadster redline 500 ticks shy of the M3 (and yes this is where the extra 15hp reside...BMW did not want the exiting M Coupe to steal the thunder when their darling new M3 hit the streets). The Coupe weighs in at around 2900lbs. It's a VERY fun little car to say the least...revving to 7500rpm is pure music.
Back to the task at hand - you vs. this M3!
Before my mods (4lb pulley, chip, Bassani) I ran each 5 times using the new g-tech pro...not exact BUT the cool thing was being able to compare the 2 cars on the same night using the same tool (in other words, if it's off, the ratio is the same for both so the data is relatively useful for comparison). Also the new g-tech pro is MUCH better than the old one and has given me pretty accurate results compared to track runs in the L.
Here are my fastest results from that night for each (and yes, 60ft times on the street kinda suck) :
///M Coupe results///
*** RUN #1 STATS *** (hold @ 1200, drop clutch, spinning through 1st gear into 2nd)
Race Temperature: 87*f
1/4m : 13.967s at 105.90MPH
60' : 2.495s
330' : 6.214s
1/8m : 9.273s at 83.11MPH
1000' : 11.833s
60MPH : 5.419s
///Lightning results///
*** RUN #1 STATS *** (stock, flooring it from a stop)
Race Temperature: 87*f
1/4m : 13.856s at 103.97MPH
60' : 2.578s
330' : 6.215s
1/8m : 9.196s at 84.35MPH
1000' : 11.770s
60MPH : 5.434s
The old g-tech and the new ones measure about 3-5mph too high in the 1/4.
As you can see they were VERY close. Which was very cool. I love nothing more than beating other BMW owners with the L - the most fun on the entire planet I swear! Most BMW owners are just way too caught up in themselves and their marque.
There is no better tool than an L to educate the poor bastards.
Bottom line is - if he's stock, you should beat him. From a roll, even more so if he has to shift AND he has it in the wrong gear (remember, these motors are top end runners) - he may botch it and if it's a new car, he may not be too comfy with it yet.
In any event, have fun! I for one hope you beat him because it just tastes so good when they can't stand it...

I figure with Evan Smith in the car rowing the gears its about another 30-40 hp
