That may not be too far from the truth!

About 2 months ago BMW issued extended warranties to all of us with the S54 motor...they've had quite a few grenade in the past year...

Lucky for me, the Coupe and Roadsters haven't been doing it too much - I think there's been one or two reported cases. The M3s on the other hand with the higher rev limiter are much more frequent.

To be fair, they do think they nailed it down to a small window of production from late '01 (just a few months of it) but that's the last I recall hearing of it...
