People who bought cobra R got porked
I just feel bad for the people that OVER paid for the cobra Rs in 2000.Ford really screwed you big time. No radio, nothin and a regular cobra in 03 will WALK all over you at 1/2 the price.I understand that they are limited and rare but at this point,I dont feel that (and never did) they are worth the money. The new Cobra on the other hand is awesome.
I just think it must feel bad since you who bought them wanted to have the fastest and rarest SVT car. Some of the color combos on the 03 cobra are probally just as rare.No flaming,We are all SVT lovers but ,I would feel molested. It'll probally even spit a spark plug in a few miles..
OUCH

My point: straight-line acceleration is just one aspect of a car's worth.

The 03 Cobra is a porker (no pun intended) at 3600 lbs. It handles well with the IRS in place, but around a track the Cobra R will eat it. The Cobra R pulled 1.00G on the skidpad (for reference a 360 Modena and 911 Turbo pull mid 0.9s). It will also brake harder and will handle much better at higher speeds than an 03.
The Cobra R is a collectible car, just like a Ferrari 250 GTO or a Lambo Miura. Both cars are not screamers, but they are worth millions because of their namesake.
In twenty years, a Cobra R will be the envy of many car collectors.
The only other car I would take instead of my L would be a Cobra R. That 4V 5.4 is a beast and is also underrated like the 03. If need be, you can also supercharge it, and pull insane 1/4 mile times. You can also AutoX it and embarrass Porsche and Ferrari owners

As with everything else, opinions vary. My '95 R cost me 36K+. Alot of $$ for sure, but I have one of 250. While it's not the fastest, it is a blast to drive and gets tons of looks from anyone who 'knows'. As stated above, performance is just one aspect of the car. If it was all about acceleration, we'd all have late 80's/early 90's notchback Stang's that'd run like stink (Dime a Dozen Cheap Speed).
IMO a Cobra R is a true 'limited production vehicle', unlike the '03 Cobras, and the Lightnings unfortunately. Not that I'm saying these vehicles aren't awesome, they are! Ford managed to sell so many I see them every day on the streets. I have yet to see another of the 657 Cobra R's ever produced being driven on the street. Maybe someday...

Well, I'm not sure I'd say that 00 R owners got screwed. It really depends on what you were looking to get out of the car. The 00 R makes about the same power as the 03 Cobra, they just do it differently. The R is natural, but is a larger displacement. The 03 is blown, with a smaller displacement. I've seen faster 1/4 miles ETs from a stock 00 R than I've seen from stock 03s, and this is from a car NOT built for straight line performance. On a road course, it's no comparison; the 00 R will run circles around an 03 Cobra. However on the street, you've got all the luxury and comfort in the 03 Cobra, with a massive torque power band. Both cars have their pros and cons. Also the 00 R stickered for $52k compared to the 03 Cobra's $36k; that's not exactly half the price. Plus I'd bet anything that 10 years from now, the 00 R will have held a much stronger value over the 03 Cobra.
I've tuned and dealt with both cars. I love both cars, and the 03 Cobras continue to impress me. But if money was not an option and I had to choose one, there would be an 00 R in my driveway.

Seriously though, I don't think CobraR owners got ripped off. First it is very limited production vehicle, second it may not be the best track car out there but it's not horrible. I'd rather have one then the new Cobra just because of what the R is.
