L on CA Speedway big oval

I did a 2 day HPDE at CA Speedway over the weekend. This was a 2.8 mile road coase including the front straight and turns 1 & 2 oval. I ran in the 1-2 class both days with 35 assorted sports cars, new and old Cobras, C5, 325, 944 T,Miata, etc. Bottom line was Sun afternoon 2 runs I had the fastest laps next to the '03 Cobra, which I stayed on his bumper. At the end of the event the instructor John (and a fast group of drivers) said they couldn't believe how fast it got around the course. They were totally impressed. He was in the BMW and we diced quite a bit in the tights, I let him pass once but found I could plant on his bumper then pull away on the straight and bank so I decided not to let him by again. He bumped me up to class 3 for future runs. I ran 555R's out back. Some pics are in my gallery. The brakes weren't up to the 130 mph + rt comming out of the oval, and the first day I had to drop out after 3-4 laps bcause ABS was pounding. I adopted a hard stabbing technique which worked good on Sun. I have drilled & slotted 12" fronts w/ Ceramix and Valvaline syn fluid, stock rears. Also, why did the throttle pedal buzz when I went into the oval at 130? I was the only L Sunday and carried the banner well. John was very helpful. Great damn time!!

Yes for both HPDE. Front 1" drop and stiffer coils, bigger front sway bar, 2" drop shackles, slapper bars. Front drilled and slotted rotors w/ ceramic pads, valv. synth. fluid; stock r brakes. Have rr brake upgrade, sway bar, and spring to do yet. Really need bigger brakes! Couldn't have done itw/out the 555R's. It was quite an experience. Need the big track, don't think I'll do it on anything too tight.

Nice setup. I have the full Roush Racing suspension, and love it. Who's front anti sway bar are you using? What are they going for?

I think it was Hellwig, maybe $125. Its solid , heavy, and big, about 1.5"! I got it a year ago so I'm not real sure. I could look it up tomorrow if you need more help. I would have preferred a hollow bar but they are more $$.

So how many times did Alphadoggy drive off the track into the pits because his tires got hot?

Glad you had a good time. I hope you took lots of pictures. Not something you get to do often.

Were opening up Irwindales Oval race season on April 5th @ 4:30pm PST. Supposed to be televised. We got like 30 trucks going. 2 Laps on the oval and then parking in the center of the track.

droptail,

That sounds like a blast! I've auto-xed a couple of times w/Stan (aka Ruslow) at Hallet outside of Tulsa, OK. and that was one of the craziest experiences of my almost 33 years!

Keep 'er between the ditches and shiny side up!

Ronald
