Well, I traded in the L in ....

1 week ago, and I'm approaching break-in in my new Mitsu Lancer Evo. Would anybody in the Tampa/ST. Pete Sarasota/Bradenton/Venice area that owns an L or Cobra be so kind to see what this thing can do against it??? I'm itching to see ... I will always be a big L/Cobra fan so it is a must for me to benchmark against one. Someone please step up to the plate ... thanks!

You'll get beat very badly by a Cobra and/or a modded Lightning. Stock Lightning pickup truck and you might have a chance w/ a bad driver.

Doubt I would get beat bad by an L unless it extremely modded ... Cobra is different story, but I'm not looking to earn bragging rights ... just looks for a comparsion/benchmark ... as I stated. I presume that a stock/lightly modded L should have trouble keeping up 0-60 but would probably get me in 1/4 mile. A stock 99-00 L would most likely get toasted, but a stock 01-03 should depend on the driver. This why I want to try ... never know until then!

Why don't you take it to the track? One of the better tracks in Florida is right there, Bradenton.

You need to check out FLA SVT . com and ask that question over there. There is one 03' Cobra in particular you might have a hard time keeping up with.

2000 Black,

Orlanda eh ... many good times spent there! Do you go every Friday night?

Onelfastlride,

Yea I'm aware of Desoto ... I still have about 200 miles left break her in and I'll be ready. Mitsu claims that 600 + miles is sufficient.

03' Cobra would give me a hard time ... but after a few mods it could get interesting ... do you come down here often?

Nah not every Friday. I'm sure everyone would get a kick out of seeing your car out there though. Good luck with your break in. I may be in Tampa next week but I probably won't take the L.

Sounds like a plan ... I'll be out of town May 2-10, and back on Sunday the 11th. By then my evo should have a few miles on her and fully ready ... I've been doing some research, and I haven't proven this to be true, but I'm hearing that the U.S. version evo 8 has a stock chip in to limit its horse at 271. Supposedly, a guy that's been tuning the evo's over in Europe can supply a chip & dyno tune + a few other mods (incresed boost, etc.) that will take my pocket rocket up to 330hp!!! He also has an agreement w/ Mitsu so this set-up (approx $1200) will not void the warranty. If this happens, you should be very worried. Yes, be very worried my friend.

0-60 has been avg. test is between 4.8-5.4. Here are some specs ... if you or anyone in the Cali area is intersted in one, let me know. I can set you up with a dealer that will not charge you more than $1500 over sticker ... I've heard how rediculously priced they are out there. You are better off buying one here and breaking it in on the drive back.

There is no doubt in my mind the EVO is going to be a freaking beast when modded.

But until then........

Thats right it will be. With the AWD launch and a low spooling high boost turbo it should be real nice.
