99 lightning questions

hey all just have a question about 99 L's and am considering buying one after my lease is up on my current vehicle.

how much are they selling for used?

also, how much $ does it cost to make them as fast as the later models. (380hp instead of 360.)

The differance is mostly the 01 and 02 have the Larger 90 MM MAF and 373 gears, compared to 80mm and 355 on the 99/00
However 99/00 do seem to have stronger Rods.

With a Fliter-chip-n-pulley, you'll be right there with all of us.

Unfortunatly is seems this year,
you'll need a KB, Whipple, or Juice to keep up with us maniac's

I may have to sell in another yr or so before we resort to Rocket Power

GOOD LUCK
What ever the hell your name is

I can't help you on the price, but there are just a few things that make the 99 and 2000 different than the 2001's and up

355 vs 373 gears
80 vs 90 mm mas air meter.

What most people do is put the larger mass air meter, with a chip tuned for the 90 mm mas air. Then they put a open air filter and a larger lower supercharger pulley. That will make it equal or stronger than a 2001 and up Lightning.

Some people do change the rear end gears, but that is often a later mod, after most of the other bolt on mods are done.

Just like what the others said.... change to a 90mm MAF, add a big filter, get a chip, change the lower pulley, and you WILL be faster than a stock 2001+ L. When I first did these mods, I ran a 13.17 on stock tires. Hope this helps.

thanks alot guys you rock

also, after my lease is up in a year, im considering either a used c5 (like around 1997-99) vs a 99 - 00 lightning

i like the advantages that both vehicles have, so it basically comes down to:

which will cost more?

which is more reliable?

as far as reliability, its up in the air. I had a buddy with a C5 and his seemed to be in the shop all the time, mostly with tranny issues i think. But at the same time, I'm taking mine into the shop today for the 5th time since I've owned it.

If your buying a used vehicle, its all up in the air. Make sure it hasnt been modded in the past, at least there will be a better chance it hasnt been abused...

Anytime you buy a used performance vehicle, thats a tricky call
