Thermostats-Stock or 160

What is the consensus on thermostats? Remove the stock one and run a colder (160) one. Does this help with deto or and other undesired conditions?

I replaced the OEM one with a Hypertech 160 degree one many thousands of miles ago. I've never heard any detonation. It's a simple mod to do.

Here where I live in the summer it gets up to 120, I put the hypertech 160 works much better. I just installed an elec. fan with a toggle switch. Right now its around 80 outside and I can drive my L with the fan off all day with no problems. The temp needle doesnt go above half.

160 degree helps in the L as long as the outside temps are above 54 degrees F. Any lower and it may blow a code. Go for the 170 degree and stay in closed loop mode.

160 blows a code on mine every single time at or below 54. Then it's open loop for me.

160 I think is around 4 ft/lb
170 I think is around 1 ft/lb
180 is stock.

No 'visible' codes(no SES light) and it got down to 13*F on the way to work a few months ago. Many days below 40*F with no problems on mine.
