Question Question for Sal

Hi Sal
Is there anything new in head gaskets that you could tell me. I figured with your setup......you would know

Got the motor out again this weekend and the head gaskets (stock) were junk. It was blowing towards the manifold and the headers.

Dale, the main things to know are-

- studs are a must for high boost applications

- check the heads for warpage, they can warp easy with the abuse we put on them

- use the proper torque with whatever fastener you use

I have not seen any block deck issues, the Windsor engine plant does a great job machining these blocks. As for the head gaskets, OEM Ford is still the best. To prove that point, Randy Haywood from True Blue runs stock Ford head gaskets on his Outlaw 5.4 1800hp monster. I have not used the "new" Ford head gaskets on my truck yet, which are the ones for the oil leak issues.

Thanks for the quick response...I have the studs and the block and heads were both milled and the shop did a nice job on it.
When I pulled the heads off last night, the studs were all tight, nothing shook loose.

My problems stem from hitting the rev limiter....I'm pretty sure of it. Any ideas on that problem?
