That's amazing...

How much boost can you get out of that cobra block? The Lightning you can get about 15#'s? Even that i think is really stressing the rods. I really wish my motor had forged internals. The cobra has the Manley connecting rods that handle up to 600 or 800 horse right? It seems as if the cobra comes with a bretty built block!

I believe I had read that Pete was running 23#'s boost with a Kenne Bell. That's a pumpin.

On the subject of Cobras

I got a buddy who put a 2.8 pulley, chip, catback, airfilter and bolted on another friend's BFG's. About $850 spent.

11.40@122 (7.38@96 1/8th) backed by a 11.46@121

Last weekend he put on some sorta catless X (MAC) and some crhome catback,

Went to the track and clocked 7.28@98 in the 1/8th before missing 3rd. He cut a 1.66 60'!

You havent' lived to you have a 32V DOHC Cobra Motor

I had a 96, and miss it very much
I also miss the High RPM shifts so bad that I'm gonna trade in the L for a Cobra Convert in the future.
On my 96, I believe the Red line started at 6900, I had a filter, Chip-n some goodies in mine and had the limiter moved and would shift that sucker over 7K on a daily basis for yrs.
Great Motor, that seems to take quite a beating with no major issues...... I can't wait to get another, especially now that they're SuperCharged

But I can't part with the L yet, it's just way too hot looking + Fun,
and much more unique IMO

the reason not many use it in a lightning is due to it's lower torque, higher RPM approach. Good for a stealthy small stang, bad for a big heavy truck

Nothing beats a 4.6 DOHC Snake that has been punched, sleeved, ported, polished, cammed and centrifugally blown

626 rwhp and spinning to 8200K was fun

There is a Nitrous Pete modded '03 Cobra in my neighborhood.
I have had several conversations with the owner, who has shown me the dyno sheets and if I remember correctly he is putting well over 730 horses on the rear tires. It is driven almost daily and sounds really bad @ssed.

I agree with ya Rob on all your points... The Cobra is an impressive car. and tundra, your buddy going 11.40 with $850 on the car I believe that. And that's what's amazing! 12.60-12.80 stock is very impresive. 6 speed tranny would be so FUN. DOHC and what that block can handle is very impressive... I really would like to get one. Just like Rob said, can't get rid of the L just yet. I've only had it a year and I've had so much fun with it. Just riding it around town, moding it, going to the track. All the compliments I get on it are priceless... I just wish somehow I could have both.
Maybe someday I will... till then i'm just going to enjoy the L...
thanks, Shane

why is it so hard to install a bigger crank pulley on the cobra's compared to the L's? Why is everyone changing out the uppers on Cobra's and Lowers on Lightnings? why can't the average person do a lower pulley swap on the Cobra like I can do on my L?
thanks, Shane

The pulley gets in the way of a coolant or power steering line (metal one).

Now if you don't mind, I'm gonna thread jack. lol

My buddy got a mac X and catback for a total of $1500 in mods. He lost .1 in the 60' dept. (1.76 compared to the previous best of 1.66) and still went 11.37@123. He's still got the stock shifter. (7.38@98mph 1/8th)

The car has 11.20's in it, we know, it ran a 7.28@98 before he missed 4th.

You think the cobra is badass, wait until the GT comes out. I hope I make my $$ in time.

I ran a 13.016@103 with a 4lber, filter, 90maf, and ET STREETS. Cut a 1.85 60' (8.39@82 1/8th). Shifting really sucks though since I ain't got a chip.

I see 12.60s with a chip....
