Cool

HI!... Mondo1 : The GEN 1 LIGHTNING was only rated at 240-245H.P (flywheel). It weighs close to the new HEMI truck, almost equal gearing. For the HEMI DODGE to run the same times as a GEN 1 and have about 100H.P (flywheel) more, that's just sad. I've raced several HEMI trucks and smoked them all, badly. I'm still N/A but modded.

Neal- I had 2 Gen I's and although they were rated at 240 h.p the real numbers were closer to 285. Asdk anyone (like me ) who dynoed theres. After 91 Ford rated all their hi-perf vehicles 8-10 % (ie: 215 h.p. mustangs rated at 225 from 87-91) Anyway for whatever the reason (insurance or otherwise) the Lightnings were very under rated machines. And they also weigh at LEAST 500 lbs less. My brother Hemi Q-Cab is at 5200 and change. I love my Fords but the Dodge is impressive, my friend.None of the other car builders have that much power in the N/A category.Hell, even the Harley has the same power, now torque? Thats another issue.

HI!... Mondo1 : Wow! 285h.p! You must of had a a oddball GEN 1. I use to know a few guys and one woman that had GEN 1's. All had them dynoed and none of them made more tham 180RWH.P. When I 1ST got my 5.4 F-150, I installed a filter kit and 4.10 gears and walked two of those above mentioned trucks. I'm sorry but I can't see 285H.P

With the new dodge hemi pickup the horsepower is there but the drive-by-wire system won’t let you hot rod the Hemi. On the dyno, the horsepower is spiked. As you pedal the gas, and the engine comes alive, the drive-by-wire and torque management system will start to close the throttle.

That drive-by-wire system doesn’t seem very good for performance.

All of the advertising made the hemi look more than it actually is. I personally expected them to be more than they are. I dont think those are great times considering a 5.3 chevy will run better than that with higher gears.

Comparing the Hemi to a Lightning--Supercharged vs non-supercharged-- Is like comparing the Mustang (302) vs Camar0 (350).

It may not be fair, but thats whats on the street. Just like when and if the Viper truck hits the bricks V-8 vs V-10. So who cares, bring them on

Funny, I never said I dynoed out at 285. We all use Paul's Mustang dyno with an Eddy Current brake system that actually reads 10-15 % less than the dynojets out there and Tim (part owner of R.E.M.) owns a 95 Gen I with just an intake, dynoed out at 210. And My 95 had a filter, intake spacer and roller rockers and it dynoed out at 238 rwhp.So it sounds more like those Gen I's by you are the oddballs...( there were some of the 351's that were a bit less on power than others) Anyway without getting into a pissing match, figure the average Gen I put out 200 rwhp on a Mustang dyno. Add 10 % for the typical dynojets optimistic figures and you get 240. Add 15 % for drivetrain loss and Voila....276 h.p. Close enough? My Gen I ran a 14.6 with those few mods. I nver lost to a 97+ 5.4 n/a. thats not to say your truck isn't quicker. What were your times?

HI!... Mondo1 : I never said you DID dyno out at 285H.P. I took it as 285 FLYWHEEL H.P not RWH.P. 95% of the bone stock GEN 1's around here run 15.5 to 15.8E.T's. When my truck was bone stock it ran 16.01E.T with some tire spin and over 100 degree's temps. Never ran it with just the filter kit and 4.10's, but I suspect it would of been mid/lower 15's. At for my times, now, I don't know. Last time to the track I ran a 14.52E.T with a terribe 60FT of 2.4. My truck has always gone 2.0 even very consistantly. That run I spun half way through 1ST gear. Since then I have done a TON of mods and MIKE T and I figure I'm in the high 13's with slicks. I'd love to go to the dragstrip right now but I blew my posi in my 9.75 and need cash to get it fixed. I'm currently working on a deal to get a set of "03" 5.4 "P.I" heads from FOX LAKE that are fully ported/polished, bigger FERREA S/S valves and the stage 2 CROWER cams. We'll see what I run then with the heads. I'm not flaming you, not at all. It just seemed like a high #, compared to the GEN 1's that I have seen here and at the track.

Pretty bad when i can take a HEMI...Hey MaxTorque02 Yes the HEMI is just a Design but have you seen any of the commercials? Seems like they are maketing the SPEED of the truck not the Design.....
