Hemi goes 15.48
There was a new Dodge Hemi Pick-up at the local track last night.
I believe he said he had about 400 miles on it. He was running consistent 15.48's.Not too impressive. Also had a chance to see my first M-3, which was running 14.0's. Quite an impressive little car that seemed to have a little more on the Top End of the track.
I was able to get out of the 12.40's, with a new best of 12.39 at 110.06 mph, against a 10 mph head wind so I am happy. Was able to get into the final four but red lighted with a .489 in my last round, unfortunately for me the other car broke out, but my night was over because of the red.

we need some creative lightning owners to cruise around for a long while with vid camera, and wait until you line up with a hemi at a stoplight. Do the whole "does that thing got a hemi" crap then waste it

Man I sure don't wanna get waxed by a new Hemi. I am going to have to bite the bullet and maybe get one of those chips and a few other things. Doubt my truck would break a 17 second run.

My girlfriend's best friend and her husband just bought a silver Dodge 2500 w/ the Hemi, so they can haul their big camper or trailer with Harleys. It is pretty fast for a huge truck. I think some of you are comparing apples and oranges here. A Lightning is meant to be basically a "corvette with a truck bed" wheras the Dodge Hemi trucks are not sports vehicles... and the Hemi is pretty darn fast and stout for hauling, which is the main purpose. The Lightning has different computer programming, gearing, etc as well and also is lighter and has more power and stickier tires. Now, of course Hemi owners who think their Hemi IS a sports car and try and race people... well, they deserve all the ridicule and embarassement they get when they get smoked.

I agree with Maxtorque. 15.48 for a N/A quad-cab is very impressive. Lets not forget that a stock Gen I that weighs less, with a gt-40 351 ran those times with a 4:10 rear to boot. True the H.P. was about 40 less, but the Dodge is heavier with a 3.92 gear and probably had 20 inchers on it. I've rode in one and they do take a few seconds to spool up, but they do run well. Now...slap on a K.B. and ...now your talking!!

I hear what your all saying about it not being a fair comparison, "HOWEVER" I owned a REAL HEMI back in the hey days. (392 Hemi to be exact) with a 4 speed push button transmission no yet, it was weird chirping gears as you pushed a button
The word Hemi has always meant "the best", "the fastest",
"the toughest", etc...
I guess those days are gone. Sounds like a waste of history to me. I mean come on, that would be like Chevy bringing back the 302 Z-28 Motor and putting it in a motor home MAKES NO SENSE.
As for Chrysler they already have tons of good motors, even the re-birth of the Magnum's (if you wanna call it a Magnum) I had the real deal there too, 1970 RT Super Bee, limited edition, Now that was a Magnum, 440, Dana Rear, pistol grip shifter, factory headers, holly, ram air etc.... STOCK 425 HP I think it was, maybe 450 or 475 ?? Ugly as schitt though, everything was plastic, interior was plain old crappy looking, but man oh man did it have power. Mine was orange and Black, I had it for Senior Day in 11th grade, got in lots of trouble with it. It use to only run 13.3's but that was on street tires with no mods at all, and me having no experience launching a monster like that at age 17. If I had it today I'm sure it would do 12's 100% stock.
I have this funny feeling the Viper Truck is gonna be just as disappointing as the rest of Cryslers line up (minus the Viper of course) We'll find out in a few months

Rob_02Lightning,
Hemi is just a design. It doesn't necessarily make any more horsepower in itself. I remember the Dodge Hemi days very well also with the 392 and then the 426. Ford and Chevys were spitting out comparable numbers with their 390's and 427's for Ford, and 409's and 427's for Chevy. Geez, I'm really dating myself now. Dodge has brought back the hemi more for marketing ploy than anything. It's not a bad engine, but even like in the 60's and 70's their are easily comparable motors by the other makers.
