Unhappy It Must Be A Bent Valve!

Well I got my helicoil back in with a new plug. She's still missing. I can put it on a scanner tonight, but its poss a valve bent. I have 2000 miles, so pulling this head makes my not happy at all. Two times with a bent valve becomes depressing. Anyone want to buy a Ford?

What makes you think you bent a valve? The only way you are going to bend a valve is if it physically hits something. If you burned a plug in the same cylinder, it sounds like you burned a valve, not a bent a valve. It's pretty common when you burn a plug with a very lean or too much timing program to burn the exhaust valve as well.

Do a compression check. Go to your local auto parts store and buy a compression tester. Screw it in like a spark plug and then fire it up. Check the compression of a few cylinders to see if you are where you should be.

That means the edge of the valve is slightly burned and it will no longer seat against the head. If you do a compression or water test (with head off), the cylinder will not seal. It will give the same symptoms as a bent valve, because both will not allow the valve to seal. A bent valve usually sticks in the guide and runs much worse. A burned valve will just misfire.

Well it must be burned. Because its not running as bad as my bent valve. Whats the process of the burned valve? A new valve job on that valve? Where the 3 angle seal is?

Yeah that's pretty much it. It's a simple fix once the head is off. Just replace the valve and clean up the seat on the head. It's very unlikely that the head is damaged more than a quick seat regrind will fix.

Cool

Tim,

You've probably done this but I'll ask anyway. Did you check all the plugs?

Damn Tim, it just doesn't seem to get any better huh ?? Who is pulling your head for you? or do you do it yourself. As many times as it's come off lately you may want to do it yourself, you'll be a pro in no time.

Well I watched all the procedures last time. I'm pulling it apart myself. Putting it back togather, I'm letting my Ford machanic do the timing chains and the heads bach on. While I have the heads off I may do the spring helicoils and a few special things. Hmm cams sounds good. I'm going to turn something bad into good!
Stop by my work and let me know if you need any help.
Thanks Mike, I have been looking for you but haven't caught you. Its perty simple , just time involved. Appriciate your offer.
Tim
