Question Radar detectors

http://www.escortstore.com/srx.htm
Anyone have any experience with one of these. Sounds good, but awfully pricey.

Not that I would ever think of going over the poseted speed limit. It is just nice to know when big brother is watching you.

JMHO

I would stick with the Passport 8500 or Valentine V1. Both good products for a reasonable price.

Ain't that the truth .

LOL the escort has SUPERCHARGED RADAR DETECTION!!! Should be a good match for our truck eh? or will the L cause it to false alarm all the time?

Dude for that price get a V1 for every vehicle you drive......you'll have to remind yourself that you still have to stop at redlights and stop signs....thats how good the V1 works.

I've seen the Passport for about 260 bucks. It only retails for 300 bucks. I know some swear by the V1 but I could not warrant the extra money based on the comparisons I saw.

The directional feature is nice and I wish my Passport 8500 had that. But the way I drive, especially on the highway, if my radar detector goes off then I slow down regardless of what direction it's coming from. At that point in time, I don't care where the cop is, just the fact that there is one and I need to slow down.

If you want the best of the best, get the V1. If price matters, look around and see what other units may offer. I did and ended up with my Passport 8500.

Cool

Just remember when you're out there by yourself a radar detector is worthless against a smart cop.

A guy I work with got a little too c o c k y about his new V1 while running some backroads in his Mazda Speed. The county mountie saw him coming and turned on the radar. BUSTED.

Just a little heads up for when you're not in traffic.

Had to go back and edit because of the word c o c k y.

Ive been thinking of moving my 8500 to my Caddy and getting an SRX.

Now that Laser is coming to NJ, I'd like to get that integrated Lidar.

I've been thinking about doing something like James Bond's Astin Martin in "Die Another Day"

Unhappy

Most of the county and state police around here have laser and (instant on) radar, so if your not paying attention, i,e, anticipating the police and really watching for them the best detection equipment in the world is useless,,, Or do these two afformentioned receivers detect somehow an, "instant on" pulse? i have an old whistler that i don't even turn on anymore,, i just pay attention and hope i can recognize the big Ford crown vic and slow down in time,,

I am a big fan of the V1, my best friend had one hardwired into his Audi and he never was pulled over for speeding. Convinced me and another friend to invest in one. And yes, for me it is an investment, I spend enough time on the highway to justify it.

The Valentine 1 is the only way to go. Period. It is far superior to any other unit. I just recently got one and there is no comparison between it and the previous detector I was using. As far as cost is concern, buying a cheaper detector will cost you MORE money in the long run. If you save $100 now buy getting a $300 detector instead of the $400 V1, in a few years when that "other" detector is obsolite, you'll be spending another $300. The V1 is NEVER obsolite. When they come out with a new feature or internal programming code, you can send yours in to be upgraded. You never have to buy an entire new unit. Just my 2 cents.

Anytime you are out on your own on the highway you are looking for trouble from instant on or laser.

The best way to avoid instant on is to avoid hills and curves when youare in the front of the pack...

FYI Sal the Passport 8500 is upgradeable too.
Like I said either way Passport 8500 or Valentine V1 both good products.
And instant on radar is what MOST patrols use. You HAVE TO pay attention to the quick signals you receive. If you get short pulses then most likely you've got someone out looking for you ahead. If it's Laser - good luck.

This is like a tuner war.
