The bolts allow for proper camber alignment post washer install.

The washers (not Ford 'star' garbage) STOP the control arm from moving. The star washers are like putting a band aid on a gnarly laceration requiring stitches.

Greasing the steering stops is NOT the clunk but is a good idea nonetheless.

In short, as long as the rear contol arm bolt is able to move, your front end will be out of alignment, PERIOD.

So Herb's washers and cam bolts out of my own pocket....how much does it total? Best place to purchase?

The dealership better be picking up the entire tab if I'm the one paying for the materials. Will ask them to grease up the steering stops as well....

Do I have to get an alignment after these installations?

maybe...

Total varies. Don't recall the exact price on Napa fitment. ~$30.
Check out the search for Fords cam bolt part number(s)

One option: Schedule the service, inquire as to whether or not cam bolts (Fords) are included, hand them the washers in lieu of the star washers.

Post install alignment? should be performed. Not sure if it is required.

If you go to dealer with that attitude, don't expect *****.

Haha You know I'm a nice guy Bob
Looks like I'll be performing these duties fairly soon here. I will inquire more about labor and hopefully everything is covered under warranty. And I'll be ecstatic if they are willing to squeeze in the alignment for free but I'm not counting on it.

As for the clunk itself, how urgent is the problem? Should I be rushing to the dealership as we speak or is this something that is more of an annoyance than something detrimental to part-longevity?

They did my old 2000 L under warranty and I even got 2 free F1's out of it The camber was so out of whack they replaced the two tires due to wear on the inside of the tread.

I had the same problem. Got a pair of "clunk washers" about a year ago from LFP and haven't heard it since.
