Thinking about a Lightning

Thinking about a Lightning
Hi. As you can see I have an 01 Z06. I am considering getting rid of my Jimmy and getting a Lightning. One of my main concerns is how the Lightning does in the Michigan winters and whether or not snow tires are necessary for winter driving. This is probably a dumb question. Maybe no one drives their Lightning in the Winter. Any input would be helpful.

Buy a cheep clunker for winter and save the " L " for summer
fall and spring. Their hell on snow, even loose in rain if pushed!
BUT fun when nice out!!!

You will definately need snow tires.....I bought a set of rims and tires for the winter and my 02 made it through the last chicago winter with zero problems. The tire rack has relatively cheap packages. It will look crappy but get you through winter easily. In my case, I bought a set of used f150 rims/all season tires from a guy that had an 01 regular f150. They worked excellent (and I only paid 200 for all 4)

forget it
you CAN NOT drive a lightning in the winter.
You can change the rear tires, put weight in the rear, it doesn' t matter.
440lbs of torque and the snow DOES NOT mix.
I drive a Grand Cherokee once snow starts following until the muddy spring is over.
the Lightning sits in the garage

Man there are definitely some paranoids in here...or maybe people just dont know how to drive.
Get the truck. I drove it through 3 MI winters with the F1's and I did ok. I would highly recommend snow tires, but I just never got around to it. The lightning is MY daily driver...and was the best car I had for snow use in the winter. If you get the snow tires and use common sense (stay out of the boost, yes it has 400+ lbft of torque, but only if you choose to use it).
Just get it.

Hey Chris,
Hehe, I look to see if you are out every time I go by so I can stop, lol!
The truck is actually doing great and I want to get to 41 soon. I don't have to drive it every day now....I bought my friends Geo metro for work....49 MPG = 9 dollars for gas a week instead of forty and no more rock chips from I94, hehe. Talk about culture shock...going from 49HP to 380HP is a wild feeling, lol!!
Oh, and like 95 saleen said...with winter tires the L is totally drivable in the winter... I know, I did it. It does just fine as long as you drive like a normal human being.

Thanks guys. I figured that with the proper tires and some common sense the Lightning would be fine in the winter.
All of us that were brought up driving rear wheel drive vehicles
in Michigan know how to drive in the snow. Granted it's fun driving my 4 wheel drive jimmy in the snow when there is alot of it but that doesn't happen all that much in the Detroit area.
Thanks again. I'm thinking Sonic Blue. I like the dark Gray but my Z06 is silver and one silver in the garage is enough.

i just bought my lightning but i fully plan to drive it every single day this winter.
of course here in the west tx. desert, "winter" means it might drop below 50 degrees a couple of times.
but.. i have to contend with driving the L home a few miles thru the country every night in 100 degree weather with at least 8,000 bugs splattered all over my L for each trip
