I myself don't get "freaked out" I just think its silly to put a badge belonging to something else on your truck (car or whatever).

I have the same thoughts when I see a escort with a Vtec sticker or a Mustang with a Type R badge... its just tasteless.

Why does anyone want to "label" their truck with a badge of something the truck isn't?
How is that 'cool'?
Would it be just as cool to put a 'GTi' or 'TypeR' badge on your f150 or maybe one of those old 'Road Runner' badges?

These are the questions I can't understand.

Once again, not defending any posers. Just trying to figure out why you guys get yer undies in a bundle over a stupid badge. You know it's not the real McCoy, isn't that enough?

yeah, but usually the only people that recongnize that it is not a real lightning are us lightning guys.....

not everyone can tell a fake, i myself have no problem showing a "fake lightning" that he is not a real lightning, and i agree w/ everyone else about the lightning stuff looks good, just not the badges, there is a guy around here that has a new crew cab, and put a lightning bumper, nice 20 inch wheels, billet grille, but no badges, and i think it looks really really nice! but to say you have something when you dont is just stupid, what if i put a harley davidson badge on my lightning? would that make sense? exactly...

It might not make much sense but it's YOUR choice. To each his own. If I saw something like that, I might laugh to myself and forget about it. Not take pictures and slam the person and go on and on about how WRONG it is.

Hey its my choice if I wanna drive a 6 inch spike through my kneecap... but just because it's my choice doesn't mean it's any less retarded.

see i dont think you could understand, cause i dont think you've ever been in our kinda position, but i dont really know you so who knows...

have you ever owned a....

Lightning, Mustang Cobra, Mustang GT, Camaro Z28/SS, or something like that....

i can try to explain like this: take the above and have someone, badge there F150 to lightning, there GT to Cobra, there V6 to GT, there V6 to Z28/SS, or anything like that corvettes or whatever, i guess some of it has to do w/ alot of us lightning guys dreamed of owning a lightning and we worked so hard to get one, and i know some guys on here, including me can't really afford one, but still get one cause we want it, and when you see somebody put a badge on and call there stuff something that it isn't, i mean come-on it's kinda bashing us in a way by taking the "easy" route of calling it a lightning or whatever. and again, i have no problem w/ someone that likes the tail lights, wheels, or even wanting to S/C there engines, or anything else that looks nice.... Hell, us lightning guys steal some stuff from other cars too, look at the "navigator Console" but if i had a Jaguar XJ8 or something i would not want to badge it a XJR.... i might change the wheels on the XJ8, but who wouldn't....

i guess it's hard to explain, and i probably am still coming off as a "better than you" type guy, but im not...

I've had a couple of Mustang GTs in my past. My dad had a Cobra. My brother has a Lightning. He doesn't share your thoughts on this badge thing. When I had a Mustang GT, I could give a rats azz if somebody took their fourbanger stang and put GT badges on it. I was just happy I had one. Thanx for trying to make me understand where you're coming from. I appreciate it. I'm all done discussing this topic. You can all cheer now. Later.

I'm gonna put a John Deer badge on my Sears lawnmower and paint it green.

Yeah baby!

Seriously, I don't understand the whole poser thing either, some people have a small pecker and need to feel better about themselves.

Well I can definitely understand where you guys are coming from. I own a 2001 F150 Sport which most of you know has the flareside, so basically the body looks like a Lightning, there is no Lightning bumper, or moldings like the Lightning has. I have owned it for just over 2 years and in that time I have had like 3 people, usually at gas stations, ask if it was a Lightning. I promptly answered no and explained the difference, that withstanding the fact the Lightning has some MAJOR power, there are some slight difference in what mine looks like compared to a REAL Lightning. I have the 17” alum rims with the BFG’s and I believe that is what lead these few people believe that it may have been a Lightning. That and they just didn’t know Ford’s that well.

I had a good friend at work suggest I put the Lightning front bumper on, which I do think looks excellent, and the other molding along with the SVT badge. I told him I couldn’t do that because it just wasn’t right and who wants to drive around KNOWING someone that has SOME knowledge of F150’s will see it and think “what a moron” because that is what I would think.

As some others have said I see nothing wrong in putting the front bumper on and the molding, but for me I like the look of my truck the way it is. If I could afford two vehicles I would buy and own a REAL Lightning. However I have my daughter and can only afford one daily driver.

I will tell you it is a 4.2 V6, I use to race on some of the short track circuits (not trucks, but hobby stocks etc) and I have beating 3 F150’s with the 4.6 automatics. So the 4.2 is not as gutless as you think. Compared to the Lightning, well yes, but it is a good motor. In case your wondering it has no mod’s yet, no chip, so it beat the 4.6 auto’s stock. I could be wrong but the 4.2 manual, compared to the 4.6 auto there is not much difference in torque and horsepower to the rear wheels.

So I agree with you guy’s about moron’s acting and pretending they have something they don’t but I disagree that the 4.2 is completely worthless and gutless. In a few more years I’ll own me a Lightning and will be damn proud of it, for now I will just be proud of what I REALLY have…
