Installed 6lb pulley (etc) boost problem

Ok. I have installed a 6lb pulley, autolite plugs, magnaflow exhaust, K&N filter, and FT valve body. No Chip. So after the install today I took the test drive. I was told the truck would run fat and it needed a tune, but i cant get on the dyno untill tuesday am. So anyway the truck is showing like 6 lb of boost on the stock guage (several wot attempts both rolling and from a stop). A couple of times i got the truck to bury the boost guage but it's only doing it once in a while. When it does go into full boost it feels like its building more power than when it reads 6 lbs. (In other words i doubt it is the guage.) I have not done the dyno tune, or had the chip reburned for the pulley, but shouldnt the boost still be there? Why the part time boost?

Hope i have described the problem well enough.

Can anyone offer any ideas?

Umm, which plugs are you running again?

What belt are you running as well?

I am running the autolite "racing" plugs , and a gates belt. There is plenty of tension on the belt. I see/hear no signs of slippage.

You should easily be able to peg that stock meter. I think that belt is slipping. Whats the part # on that belt? Belt needs to be tight.

The belt is a Gates part # K080680

It is very tight, had to fight it on there. Tensioner is past the tab, had to break it off.

The stock in dash gauge is junk! Mine did the same thing, sometimes it worked, other times it didn't.
I finally got one of those mechanics vacuum/pressure gauges and taped it to the windshield for a test drive, and then I knew for sure!
Now I have the AutoMeter with peak readout.

I have been planning on getting a bigger guage, and i hear what you are saying.. problem is i can feel a big difference between the 6 lb reading (wot) and the off the guage reading (14 lb) at wot.

Call me nuts but thats my story.

It's like it is dumping the boost 80% of the time.

Are you sure its not detonating?

I would leave everything alone until you get on the dyno brother.

If your sure the belt is not slipping, then I agree don't do anything tell you reach the dyno and have it checked out... Good Luck man

I test drove the truck with another lightning owner (he had a modified 99 and now has a modified 02) Niether of us heard anything that sounded like detonation at any time. The truck is running fat.

I dont see how he is dumping boost on the stock pcm as the shift points arent being altered. He would still see that gauge peg regardless @ 14-15 psi

It was just a thought, he needs to get a good after market boost gauge to really see what the truck is doing.

Larry.
