H20 temp sender location

I searched and found 2 variations of where to tap in for H20 temp sensor. 1 involves all sorts of cutting and clamping and fittings with the hose, the other simply involves drilling ahole in the thermostat housing.

I saw it mentioned that tapping the thermostat housing is not recommended. Why? To me it sounds like a good place to put it, and it also looks kinda nice too.

(This is for electric fan install)

Why not yank the stock sending unit and replace it with the one supplied with your kit and hook it up from there?

The block is a bad place to tap as the readings will show up either cooler or hotter than what you want to send to an electric fan. For example, if your sender in the block is showing too cool of a temp, the fan will not go on, but maybe coolant everywhere else in the system is hotter, and the fan really does need to be on.

The block is the easiest but not the best, the best place is to drill and tap the intake manifold on the right side toward the front,99 and 00 have a casting boss provided 01 and up do not but it can still be done.

Cool

HI!... The best place to install a coolant temp probe is in the "INGOING" coolant hose from the engine block to the heater core. Make sure you run a "MECHANICAL" AUTO METER temp gauge. I have found they are MUCH more accurate than the "ELECTRICAL" temp gauges. Here's a pic of my set-up.

agreed

i went with Neal's method and have been trouble free for a year now. Very accurate. Search my photo gallary here for a detailed diagram. I have the electric fan and couldn't use the block anyhow. Take it for what you want but the line going to the heater core seems to be the best. Plus if you ever wanted to "undo" the install, just replace the hose!!!

I have the temp sender that JDM supplies with the electric fan kit. Could you explain what parts are in your install? That sounds like the best place for me, cause it's easy to do, and easy to fix, and doesn't have the 'nervous' factor of the intake.

Sort of repeating... Will the JDM supplied temp sender work with the setup you have going, or should I get a different sender?
