He works for a chemical distributor. I bought a drum from him (best price I could find) and am getting ready for another one.

Thanks for the props Jody. We're the largest solvent distributor in the Northwest and have facilities in Portland(Or.), Vancouver (Wa.), Auburn(Wa.) and Phoenix (Az). We sell primarily to paint manufacturers and many manufacturing facilities use it as a cleaner or reducer. If anybody is interested, I can give you a good price and we can ship anywhere. It does get a little spendy to have it shipped, but if you're in any one of our warehouse areas, you can either pick it up or have it delivered at no charge. It's also available in 5 gallon cans, but it's to expensive to ship anywhere in 5's. We just had a price increase announced by Shell and another supplier so the price may be going up, but I will be able to hold the price for a while. We also have Xylene available.

Toluene is the way to go for an octane boost. I did a fair amount of research on it. It is a major component of many race fuels and is used in pump gas. Its octane rating is 114. The only thing I read negative about a high ratio to gas, is that above a 20% content of toluene in your tank, your gas is no longer considered gasolene by Federal standards. Now what the H%LL that means I don't know. Bottom line though, it is the safest and most effective way to boost your octane (with some lubricant for higher ratio mixes). There are several articles out there on toluene used for this purpose if you do a search.

I'm not sure which one will actually be better for octane boost, but Toluene is a hotter solvent and I know of more people that are using that as a racing fuel additive. Jody (camcojb) is currently using xylene and seemed to have good luck with it, but he also said he might try Toluene on his next order.

Toluene: 114oct
Xyline: 127oct

Xyline you need to put some lubercant in no matter what ratio you run and can only run up to a 30% mix. Hope this helps.

Toluene = 114
Xylene = 117 (nowhere NEAR 127)

I've ran it in my old Lightning and it made a NICE difference in power.

Be very careful with Xylene, its some caustic stuff. Its in the same boat as Methanol
