Question How much ATF for stock pan?

One more tranny question for today. Im ordering some royal purple ATF and was wondering how much I need. Its a synthetic brand, so do I need to fully flush the system? or can I just drain it and re-fill? How much fluid for each method?

I just flushed by system yesterday. I have the 4x4 pan, and total refill (Mobile 1) was 17.5 quarts or so (just under 18).

If you remove the stock pan and refill it, it will probably take around 6 quarts (if I recall correctly, the 4x4 pan took around 7 quarts and it's supposed to hold 1 quart more).

Hope that helps.

so if you drain it you only need 6 quarts? and if you flush it you need about 16?

yep.

I'm not sure if you can mix the RP with the rest, though. I'm kinda **** retentive, so I won't mix 'em. Greg E says you can mix Mobile 1 ATF, but I haven't heard one thing or the other about RP.

Since I bought the Mobile 1, the shop that did the switch only charged me $49 and it took about 15 mins...

I have the B&M pan and I used about 10qts. Mobil 1 ATF. I didn't drain the torque converter.

Your converter should have a drain pug on it....if its a 13 incher it should hold at least 3 to 4 quarts.....

Converters built after 8-11-2001 no longer have a drain plug, the converter holds a little more than 9 quarts fo fluid, the clutch packs and wormtrail will hold up to 3-4 more.

how much *should* it cost to have them flush all of the old fluid out? If I change my pan + filter myself before hand anyhow.

There is a quick lube place here that has a deal on a total flush for 60 bucks. That is with regular Mercon though....

I would supply the fluid, just need it pumped in. Probably pretty cheap then I would guess.
