Truck Dead, opions wanted

Was driving the truck earlier today with no problems. Cruising at about 70 MPH with the stereo up. Truck dies. It does not turn off, but all of a sudden sounds like it is struggling to keep RPMs up. And does not react to the throttle

Get to the side of the road, and shutdown. I give it a bit and try to start again. Starts, but RPMs bounce from 200-600. If i tried to give it any gas it dropped to 200-400 RPM.

Over the course of the next hour and a half I failed in flagging down 8 or so Cop cars and 3 LIGHTNINGS!!!!

Let me ask a side question. If you saw a Lightning on the side of the road with it hazards on and its hood up, would you stop?!? I was a little surprised, cause I know I would. But oh well. It is over now.

Anyway I tried a few more times over the next 2 hours or so and the same stuff happens as described before, but each time it seemed to struggle even more to stay alive.

An hour and a half flatbed ride later I got the truck back to my home town. Tried it one more time before I left and now it cranks, but doesn't turn over.

My thoughts are fuel pump or possibly an alternator. It has also been brought up that it could be a plug/coil pack failure, but upon a visual inspection they seemed to be seated firmly.

I now open up the forum for debate........

That's what some suggested. Cyntaxx checked my coil packs and they seemed firmly seated. And the symptoms don't really seem like a sign of a failed alternator.

We pulled the chip and tried it. Still no dice.

The 99/00's are notorious for blowing off one of the hoses leading to the fuel pump (there are 2). You have to drop the tank and reconnect it.

ARGH!!!

Kimball,

THAT FAWKING SUCKS!!!

Gawd darn right if I saw a 'Bolt on the side of the road, I'd stop.

Where did you break down?

My guess is the same as ****'s. Fuel pump. Or maybe it was the Plasma Booster.

Same shizznit happened to me with my 99.

Did Hubler get your body work addressed to your satisfaction?

Bob

I guess my next question is if it is the fuel pump, why wont it turn over?

Is it just the line perhaps? or could the fuel pump be fugged also?

NO, but I would rather not discuss that on here.

I was at mile post 21 on 465 Eastbound north of Indy. We did see a silver lightning go by Bob, it better not have been you

In your original post you said "it cranks but doesn't turn over." How is that possible>??? They are the same thing.

What exactly happens when you turn the key to the start position>??? If it cranks over I would check the pumps, fuel shut-off switch and fuses.

If it does not crank then try jumping it or replacing the battery first. -Mat-

No idea what your problem is... but to answer your other question there is no way I'd leave a Lightning sittin on the side of the road without at least stopping to see if I could help out.

Kimball,

When mine died, it would turn over, barely run so long as you didn't breathe on the go pedal, then die.

I don't know what your problem is, but I would have stopped if I saw a downed Lightning...

That's exactly how mine was. It would start, stutter, and eventually die. However, if you tried to keep the RPMs up, the revs would quickly drop and the truck would die.

After having it towed to the dealership, I tried to start it one last time and I wouldn't come on PERIOD.
