whats up with this...

I am having something happen that is really annoying and want to get rid of it. My L is doing some weird shiz. If I get on it (WOT) and hold it, when it shifts around 65-70 it seems strong, but after a few seconds it acts like its getting a sudden surge or power. Its enough to really notice. So much in fact that my wife asked me what was wrong with the truck (and she isnt the type of person to notice much of anything from the passenger seat or even the drivers seat for that matter). I unplugged my boost dump solenoid and it still does it. I was thinking that it was just the computer dumping boost, but I figured it would go away after unplugging the solenoid. I swear its still dumping boost, but it shifts much harder now that I unplugged the dump solenoid.

So is the computer still dumping boost on me or is it something else? I have only owned my L for 2 weeks and there isnt anyone close that knows much about these trucks (local dealers, but they have only seen them in print, not real life). I am at a loss and any help would be great.

Chris

hrmmm. torque redcution maybe?

maybe if you give more details. Sounds like torque reduction to me. what kind of vehicle are you coming from? and welcome.

I traded a 98 F-150 ext. cab 4x4 OffRoad with a 4.6 in on my L. L is much faster (wonder why... lol).

Anyways, Standing start or rolling start, if I open it up, when it shifts (2nd to 3rd I believe) I get a sudden bust of power (push me back in the seat , kinda like hitting some N2O) around 75-80. Its a plain out JOLT of power. I cant say that there is a lack of power after the shift, but there is a definite increase of power (it could be traction, but its bone stock and never gets sideways on me). I wil run out tomarrow and reproduce it and get some exact details. I am in need of a new air filter, but I am going to replace it with a CAI as soon as I get the money from my Hypertech from the 98 (anyone want a nice programmer???) I thought unplugging the dump solenoid was all that was needed to kill the torque reduction. Maybe the computer is retarding the timing at shifts? I really dont know.

Chris
ps, no chip.

I am

Are you saying that you are getting a burst of power after the 2-3 shift? Or are you LOSING power after the 2-3 shift?

Why would getting a Jolt of power be a problem

that really sounds like torque reduction. The only way to get rid of it is with a chip and or recalibration and you request it to be turned off. it turns of the fuel to the i think 4 cylinders to reduce loads on shifts. or, i can't remember, if it turns off fuel or..damn..pain killers

Are you saying that after the 2-3 shift it goes a little flat, then you get a "burst" of acceleration?

sounds more like the torque converter locking up (normal)

its not realy going flat when it shifts, but a few seconds after the shift the power comes on really strong. After reading a few other posts I now believe it is the torque reduction kicking in. Maybe I should plug my boost dump solenoid back in. If the computer is doing other things besides dumping boost to save on transmission life, having full boost at shifts isnt going to help matters much.

Its not torque reduction, torque reduction only applies during the 1-2 shift. Is your OD light blinking? That means you got a tranny problem. You might want to have your dealer scan your computer for codes. Any Ford dealer can do it, doesn't have to be SVT.

Perhaps it's just the convertor locking up?

At what rpm is this happening jakhammer?

That was my first thought, but you wouldn't feel it on the 2-3 shift at 65-70 mph.
