4lb or 6lb for daily driver?
Sure this has been asked before but wanted to get feedback from you guys!
I have a 01L with almost 21k miles on it and am gonna go with chip/ram air/pulley combo first. I was leaning tward a 4lb but want to consider a 6lb.
I drive the truck everyday about 40 miles a day on an average. I don't think I really drive it hard and actually don't really boost up to much cause I am on the highway most of the time.
So I guess a couple of questions would be:
1) If I do run a 6lb should I be carefull on the kickdowns cause of stress on the engine and possibly breaking the tires loose?
2) Is there a big throttle response difference between the 4lb and 6lb were it kinda has to change your driving habbits?
3) Is a 6lb and maybe 75shot too much for stock shortblock? I ask this cause I am also considering nitrious for track use only (I hope )
Thanks for the imput guys!

I went from stock to a KB - extra 2lb upper and 6lb lower, so with that in mind. First it was absolute night and day. And yes I am taking my chances................
#1, you can't take it easy with a more aggressive set up, it's just so damn tempting, but know that she will break loose with any heavy throttle.
#2 I can't obviosly answer this question, but my guess is you will notice a definite difference.
#3 with my set up I was told not to add the nitro until I went with a built lower. I am pushing 16 to 17 lbs of boost with the KB and a very conservative tune.
I know my set up is different, but I hope that helps, some what. There are a lot of guys who are stock and doing exactly what you are thinking about. Check out Rob_02Lightning's sight, especially for the nitro aspect.

and good luck!

4# lower and 2# upper. I drive 50 miles a day, mostly highway. In cooler weather 70's I see a solid 14# of boost in hot 13#.
What is your goal?
You could always go with a 4# and add a 2# later....
Personnaly I dont want over 15# of boost. To me that is kreeping
into the danger zone and this is my daily driver.
FYI:
I just took it to the local 1\8th mile track last week (first time ever at a track) I was nervouse and when I saw green I mashed it off idle and roasted the tires thru first and part of second. I ran a 8.88 @ 82 w\60' of 2.2x in hot humid weather. Not great but I'm confident I have a 12sec. truck w\traction and cooler weather.
either way you will be blown away at the difference!!
BTW; Your tires will break loose with either

I have a 4# lower only because at the time I didnt know as much about these trucks as I do now. If I could do it again, I'd get a 6#. But if you really want to be on the safe side, go 4. You "shouldn't" have any problems with a 4 as long as it is tuned right. But so goes for most 6#ers... (it's all in the tune, vinny still running that 8#er???) so its your call.
After the 4#er I wanted to go faster... So instead of swaping it out and getting a 6, I got an upper also. Just less belt contact on the pullies... like I said if I had to do it again, 6# lower on my 2000. (and leave upper stock) If it was an 01 I dont know if i'd go higher than 4... just my $0.02... thanks, Shane

Incase this matters to your opinions I am getting everything installed and gonna dyno the truck in the same place. I am most likely gonna purchase a 4 way chip from PSP. I am confident that the truck will have the right tune on it and will be able to make adjustments based on the dyno results.
Any one else got any views ?
Thanks for the info guys.
