Is something missing from my upper pulley?

I've been struggling with an upper pulley swap for the past few days. I've readthat you need to remove the stock bolt from the pulley then remove the pulley. I have also read that there may also be a washer on there and that it helps in puting the new pulley back on? Well I have neither a bolt or a washer on my stock setup. I have an 03 and was wondering did they change something or am I just misunderstnading the whole procedure? Do you guys have a bolt or screw or somekind in your stock upper pulleys?

They did change the 03 S/C to a button from a bolt.
Ford more than likley wants to discourage swapping pulleys.
This is why Magnuson Products sells a S/C Nose Swap Kit.

so what does the button prevent me from doing? I can still remove the pulley, I just can't get one back on without a different tool right?

Thats weird, my 03 L has a bolt.
My build date on my heads is 01/15/03, yours must be a later production date.

Is the "button" a plastic cap covering the bolt head?

I took possesion of mine on 1-23-03 so I don't think I could possibly have a later production date. I have the black plastic "button", Six Spd Z28 do you have something more than that?

I've noticed this on some 03 L. I have yet to look under the cap to see if there are threads. So why don't you pop your cap off and look. You can get a stainless bolt and washer off of JLP.

Youo need a small alternator pulley installer and pop it back on, takes about ten minutes.

My 2003 Cobra was the same. No bolt just the plug. I simply got a bolt to run the new pulley on with. Simple as that. -Mat-

Yes there are threads under that plastic cap. I have it all figured out now. I ordered the kit from JLP but never got instructions or the little packet of hardware that are supposed to come with it. I didn't realize anything was missing from the kit though until I talked to JLP today. I was confused because I thought they had sent everything I needed and that I was supposed to use stock parts from my truck that I didn't have. He explained it all to me, and the pieces I need will be here shortly. Real nice guy and great customer service.
