30, 000 mile service...?

I tried a search, and didn't infd much on this topic.
What I wanted to find out, is what is a typical cost for someone to have the dealer do the 30K mile scheduled service?

I also, only want them to do certain parts of the service, like transmission fluid, fuel filter, coolant....

I have switched to Mobil one, and don't want the reg stuff back in...

Thanks for any input...!

Cool

I don't know you so don't take this personally or in the wrong light.

If you just do it yourself you'll learn all about it from top to bottom. AND you'll get a first hand view of everything else under there. It'll get you familiar with: the suspension pieces, anything that might be leaking, brakes, exhaust, ect... It'll also make you more comfortable with doing some mods yourself.

Once you have that knowledge then you can save yourself time, money, & not have to put trust into a shop that has a vested interest in $$CHARGING$$ you to do tasks. Maybe they would be fair? Maybe they won't? One thing that is for sure, most shops/techs don't care nearly as much as you do about your ride! And generally they get paid better to hurry the job vs taking some TLC.

I can't tell you how many times I've been doing something to one of my cars (or even a friends) and just happen to notice things that need attention.

Get the tools if you need to and just do it yourself.

Later, WOT

wydopnthrtl - No trouble

I actually do a lot of work on my own vehicles, heck I have 5 of them!!

I can do most everything myself, except the tranny fluid, my problem is time.

I am actually selling the truck in the near future due to the fact that my needs have changed, and I wanted to be able to tell the new owner that I just had the 30K service done...

I know what you mean about shops too, believe me!
I have learned my lessons earlier in life by doing just that...

I would hope the dealer could handle a service procedure...?

For what it's worth, my dealership offers two 30/60/90K services. here is what the included and cost last time I checked:

Mini:
oil & filter*
BG MOA oil additive
four wheel brake inspection
battery inspection and service
cooling system inspection
lube hinges, latches, locks, etc
auto transmission service* (with new filter OR complete fluid flush)
BG transmission additives
replace air filter*
replace fuel filter*
inspect and or repack front wheel bearings
inspect clutch operation
$286.90

or Max which includes everything listed above plus:
cooling system flush/service*
BG coolant additives
rotate and balance tires*
fuel injection system flush and throttle body clean
pcv valve at 60/120K
$428.85

as you can see with the package price you theoretically save money over buying each service item seperately, however you are forced to pay for a bunch of "inspections" and other nonsense that you either could do yourself or probably don't really need.

* I put asterisks beside the parts of the service that I feel are most important.

later,
chris

TIME is a factor for many of us. Undoubtedly, some of us guys own businesses, property, work voluntary overtime, or whatever. A few hours wrenching on the L doing maintenance is relaxing and a hoot BUT if you say miss out on a days overtime at $400+ or you're not at your business and you lose a grand lets say you start to realize that it is more $ effective to pay someone say $350.00 to do a service rather then take the whole day off you would need to do it and lose way more then that $350.00. On top of this many guys have families, multiple girl friends, businesses, lots of voluntary overtime and our freetime is precious. Though we enjoy tinkering it is even more enjoyable to be boating, skiing, romancing or whatever. Of course we take some time to tinker with our L.
Now, 17, 18, 19, 20 and such you may not have the time crunch issue but again many of us do. Enjoy that free time you young guys because as you get older your free time is a valuable commodity!

Preventive maintenance is a great idea.
However why don't you just slap in new front wheel bearings when you change pads and turn the rotors...bleed the brakes and flush with new fluid and stick in a FT valve body with the 4x4 pan and filter and drain up the tranny .....add synthetic and ....throw some lubricant on the locks and ....save yourself some bucks...most of the inspection stuff is bogus anyway...when something needs attention..you'll know it...I have never taken a vehickle in for any scheduled maintenance...Just my opinion....

As far as WD-40....it is a penetrant\dispersant...not a lubricant..not one I would use it works ok for very short periods but then whats the point.....lithium based grease is fine...some teflon based lock lube is what I use for the locks...

Lol @ billarf "mutiple girlfriends"...

"Mini:

Cool, thanks for the heads up on the pricing...
Actually out of that list, I'll give you a run down of what I actually would want, or really need to have a shop do...

Oil, and filter- I do myself (Mobil one)
Oil additive?- What is this, a new thing dealers do?
Brakes- Just inspected myself, and they are fine
Battery- Ditto
*Cooling system flush- Would probably want to have this done, although it is still very green, and the truck runs cool.
Lube hinges, ect- Do myself... I use the graphite powder stuff...
*Auto transmission- Def. have the shop do...
(As far as the comment about adding a deeper pan, and FTVB...Trust me, if I was to keep the truck, this would be done hands down)
Tranny additive- Again not sure what this is?
Replace air filter- Nope, got a conical K&N
Replace fuel filter- Could probably do this myself I'm sure
*Wheel bearings- This probably isn't hard, but time consuming, would have the shop do this too.
Rotate and balance tires- Nope, I have brand new Nitto's from Discount tire, and they just did it for me for free.
Injectors- At 30K, not sure this is needed, but probably would not do it anyways, unless I was keeping the truck.

So essentially I would want a tranny flush, and fill, a coolant flush and fill and a bearing repack.

I wonder if I could have this done for around $150.00?
I guess I will call around and see...

Thanks all for the comments!

Holy crap!!

I just got off the phone with a local dealer...

Hold on to your seats!

A 30K service.... $900.00!!!

But he said they could itemize it...

It includes:
Coolant flush
Tranny fluid/filter
Power steering flush
Air filter replacement
Oil change
Rear diff fluid
Slip yoke lube
Fuel system flush
Fuel filter replacement
"Inspection"
Battery check
A/C service
Tire rotation

The tranny fluid replacement is $152.00 on it's own!!
