Is winning by 2 1/2 lengths in the 1/4 good?
I was just curious if winning by 2 1/2 car lengths, or truck lengths since I raced another Lightning, is a pretty good distance to win by. I own a completely stock 2003 DSG Lightning and the guy I lined up with has a 2000 Lightning with 90mm maf, JDM exhaust, K&N, and some other things that I can't remember. Anyway I got a horrible launch and I had a hard time trying to get my tires to stop spinning, but I still managed to beat him by 2 1/2 lengths. If I had hooked better I probably would have beat him by even more than that. Anyway is that a fairly good distance to win by?
I think I could use some launching techniques as well if anyones willing to give advice, cuz just mashing the pedal down just makes the tires spin relentlessly costing me some time and distance.

Not necessarily-
The 90 MAF upgrade is the equivalent of what the 03 comes with from the factory, it has been said a thousand times tht catbacks dont really add much other than sound, and a K&N filter that may be woth a few HP's-so it sounds to me about right since an 03 has 3:73's and a 2000 doesnt.

0.1 seconds at 100mph is 10 feet. So if you beat him by 2.5 car lengths and we assume 10 feet is 1 car length then you beat him by 0.25 seconds in the 1/4 mile assuming you guiys are both going 100mph at the end of the 1/4. Obviously this is not going to be exact due to all the variables but should give you an idea.

Yep - old drag racing rule of thumb is one car length equals a tenth of a second in the quarter mile on quick cars (trucks too). Your time should have been somewhere around .25 seconds quicker than his which equates to a sound trouncing on that run. Our 03s may sit high in the rear but they can scoot.

You guys have any launching techniques you would like to share? I honestly think I would have had him by more if I had hooked up better. I had to let off the gas to make the tires stop spinning and then when I punched it again they continued to spin for a little while. How much of a difference do you think the gear difference really makes?
