intake spacer causes slower ETs!
Subject: JDM intake spacer causes slower ETs!
Message: I purchased one of JDM's intake spacer kits. I made a lot of
passes testing this at the strip. Initially I ran without the spacer to
get a baseline. I then installed the spacer kit(fighting with the EGR
tube). My truck consistently ran about 5 hundredths slower than without
the spacer. To confirm this, I then removed the spacer, and got my 5
hundredths back. This was all done on the same day. Also, with the spacer
on, my upper intake appeared to be just as hot as it was without it, certainly
too hot to touch without getting burned.
This shows that this product does nothing for performance. It accomplished
nothing but making my wallet lighter. Total waste of money, this thing
cost about an even $100 to my door. That money would have been much better
spent with someone else who isn't making this type of bogus performance claims.

Before your condemn the product - Do another test - Get another truck to run you side by side ( neither has intake spacer ) then check BOTH intake temps with IR temp guage... The other one will be hot but if yours is sooo hot you cant touch the instake you have a problem,
There is a thread somewhere about over heated intakes and broke EGR systems.

Austin, call JDM... i spoke with Justin and he has a method to check and see if your EGR valve is not working properly.. I did his test and found out that mine is not working properly.. my plenum gets supper hot... but the spacer does lower ET's when the truck is running properly....it has been proven several times...

I had Dealer Mechanic Drive my Truck with his Star Tester connected.
This was after installing a new EGR Valve. Found the EGR valve was
not closing when computer was asking it to. I had intake temp at 150 degrees
because of this.
I think Easterisland has these intake air temps figured out. A EGR valve is about 60.00. A Faulty EGR valve can do some damage to Plugs and Valves.
austinLightning, I sugest you check your #5 plug as well

I just post what I see on my own truck. I say get rid of the egr. You don't need the extra heat from the exhaust heating up the water in the heat exchanger while cruising or whenever the valve decides to open. I calculate I have killed 1 child per 5K miles of driving due to the increased emmisions. So yes, it is worth it.

I called and no answer. Does anyone on the board know how to check this. Mine gets pretty hot as well. No spacer but it seems that it still should not get as hot as it does. How can the EGR be checked?
