Do I need an electric fan and water pump to reach 400/500 with my current mods?
I've got the basic chip, filter and pulley and was real happy when I went 12.6 I just dont know if I'm at 400/500 yet.
The mods I have to the motor are...
90mm mass air w/ 12" filter
Single blade throttle body
Ported upper plenum
Intake spacer
2.80 upper w/ 100mm idler
4# lower
The truck feels real strong and I make 15#'s of boost. I just dont want to get it on the dyno and be 5-10hp short of 400 at the wheels. I know it isn't the end of the world, but I have seen these trucks dyno at 400/500 with similar mods. Should I get the electric fans and cobra water pump to try and free up some more horsepower or keep the money in my pocket and get this sucker on a dyno?
Thanks, Shane

Shane,
If all you want to do is see if you are in 400/500 than a trip to the dyno sure is a hell of a lot cheaper than an electric fan/water pump combo from any of the tuners. Besides, there are a lot of dyno tricks that could get you into the 400/500 club...dyno at STD instead of SAE (good for about 3-5% more horsepower), dyno on the coldest day possible, air the back tires up to about 60 lbs. - even the way you strap the truck down can affect the readings.

Thanks az for the reply. I am going to try to make an apointment to get up there b4 I put the truck away for winter. Like I said I just didn't want to get up there and after 3 pulls be 5hp off. I know it wouldnt kill me and it may not be worth the $400. So I'm just going to go with what I got. I am pretty confident I'm around 400/500.
How does airing the tires up to 60 help?
They will pry have fans there, and the dyno is inside, how does tempature outside effect it?
thanks, Shane

Don't air the tires up to 60...that's just a little trick that you can use on the dyno to artifically inflate your numbers. It just gives the tires a lower rolling resistance, so less hp is lost between the tires and the drum...it's just a way to fake a number. The hotter it is outside the worse the numbers will be (unless you correct for weather conditions - that's what SAE numbers are - they correct to a set standard, so there's a multiplier that figures out what the pull would have been at the standard weather conditions). Either way, you should be close. Try doing one run and then let it cool for an hour or two. Then run two as quickly back to back as you can...that will give you your best shot of getting the 400/500.

That's why I'm thinking about getting it now, and being on the safe side going into the dyno. Even though I may be close to 400/500 now, if I'm going to get the efan in the future, why not get it now if it can only help me. I'll see if I can come up with the money for the fan. If not, Ik'll just put it on the dyno. Thanks, Shane

what's wrong with putting it on the dyno? I want to see my a/f #'s to. If they can do that I think I'm going to do it. I'm curious to see how much power im making. I'd like to get to the track to, but rt66 is closed for the year and I have a hard time taking off weekends and going to any other track...
Thanks, Shane

you won't get .2 off of 10 to 15 though
on an average sized vehicle you will usually get .1 for 10 hp, but with the weight of these trucks it's more like .7 to .8 per 10
