Assembling a Lightning??

Ok guys, I was in an accident a while ago, and now the truck is ready to go back together (I got a new frame).

The cab and bed are both painted and ready to be bolted back onto the frame.

Realistically, how long should bolting and aligning the bed/cab/frame combo take?

My dealership told me 10 hours, I think they are bull****ting.

Regards,
M.R.

is this guy doing the work?

just kidding, he was just clowning...

it only takes a couple of hours to "bolt" the bed and cab down, but there is quite a bit more to the job than just the bolts. are you paying for the job or is your insurance?

are they literally replacing your entire frame? that's quite a bit of work, I've heard of those jobs going for as high as 40 hours (for a crown vic) down to about 20 something for a truck.

here is a frame:

if you'll notice there are a few important parts missing (aside from just "bolting the body and bed on").

namely, the engine and transmission:

The motor, tranny, suspension, etc... are already on the frame, ready to go. Motor runs, brakes work, everything.

Literally all that is left to do is attach the cab and bed and front valence onto the truck.

Its been there for almost two months now, and yes, insurance is paying for it.

not to be a smartass, but in that case, who cares what they are charging?

believe me it's not too much time or the insurance company wouldn't be paying for it. they don't just go around giving money away without a fight in these situations.

based on what you've said, the time does sound A LITTLE high, but still, it's a PITA job just moving the parts around and the insurance company is paying, so again, who cares?

just my .02

Ok, let me rephrase this lol

The ONLY thing left to do is mount the bed and cab and front valence. Everything else is already installed

And the reason I want to know how long it will take is because I want this truck back before it starts snowing, so I can drive it. Withdrawal symptoms are starting to set in (2 months, no L).

gotcha...

if everything goes really smoothly, I'd say 1 or 2 hours, but lets give them the benefit of the doubt and say 5 hours.

also try to remember that they didn't just take it apart yesterday afternoon, like you said it's been apart for two months or whatever, it takes a little longer to find all the little bits and pieces (nuts and bolts) and remember exactly how they go together sometimes. don't rush them, you want it done right.

also they probably told you that just to get you off of their back.

they knew if they told you two hours, that you'd wait two hours and call them and say, "IS IT READY?".

good luck, I hope you get it before the storm.

later,
chris

Ok thanks man, I hope everything goes well tommorrow.

I just hope those guys aren't ****ing me around because they dont feel like working on my truck!

Thanks again Chris, because I really had no idea how long it took to mount the bed and cab.

The storm shouldnt come for another 2-3 weeks, but I havent driven this thing for 2 months, so I am starting to go crazy!!!
