Buy a winter CAR!! Or daily driver
I get around $280 a week for a normal 40 hour week but can get almost $500 a week if I work overtime on weekends. And they let people get all the overtime they want if they need it. Which is a good thing about where I work.
So you see, my budget is alittle tight. I even need to be carefull on how much I spend on mods.

You seem to get alot of diff opinions on Snow and the L
I tried it last yr, (and did it) through NY's worse Winter in
a looooooong time. It was an absolute death trap,
I got stuck many many times and had to walk, I tried
500 lbs of concrete mix, I tried differant amounts of sand,
I tried everything. MINE won't climb the oh so slightest incline
no matter what if there's ANY snow
but other's tell me there's is fine
I got a POS for this winter, if it last
I paid 2K, been driving it everyday to work for 4- 6 months now,
but it looks A LOT better than it runs
122,000 Miles, the Steering box leaks oil all over the place,
the tranny shifts weird as schitt, but I beat it to death and it keeps starting everyday so for now, it'll do

Big man, see you finally got your L!
Did you get it from Dean Stallings, xplan, or xplan price? Sell your Mazda? Some good suggestions here for snow tires & wheels. Don't know if there's an easy way to do the following: disconnect the supercharger! If anybody knows of an easy, reverseable way, please post.

... never had a problem with my Lightning's in the snow. I thought they drove very well with no weight or snow tires. You need to know how to drive and understand that you have to take it easy, go slow, and relax. Even in the rain, you must drive this way... putting your foot to half throttle going around a turn will put you in the ditch. Understand your truck... go and play in a parking lot with it and figure out what it can and can't do.
My advice is to save your winter wheel/tire money for some worthwhile go fast parts.

Great idea with the use of the spare tire except if you get a flat......
Basically, what I did with my 99 Bolt was get 4 steel wheels and 4 Bridgestone winter dueler tires. They were awesome in the snow. No problems at all and the winters can get nasty up here.
Doing the same this year, just now I'll have 1 less rim to buy.

Ok I have some helpful info.
I called two local ford dealerships and found that any for rim that has a 14mm lug and 5 bolt pattern will fit the gen II Lightning. Only some expedition rims were 14mm so not all will work. Ford has a 16”x7 / 14mm / 5 lug, steel wheel that will fit on the L, or so they say. One dealer was selling them for about $106 each and the other about $83 each. If you go to Tire Rack you can get some cheap winter tires that will fit (235/70/16) for $50 each. That is assuming you want all brand new. The total if you were to buy them this way would be as follows:
Ford OEM Steel Rims, $83 x 4 = $332 + 5% tax = $349
Winterforce M+S winter tires from Tire Rack, $50 x 4= $200 + $38 shipping= $238
Grand Total= $587
I’m guessing that it would cost about $50 bucks to all four rims and tires mounted and balanced. So for a little over six hundred dollars you can get a brand new, never used, set of winter rims and tires. The $50 tires from Tire Rack are probably crap but I used them just as a lowest cost possible setup, for brand new that is. The rims Tire Rack suggests are over three hundred a piece, I thinks it would be nuts to spend that much on a set of winter rims.

Thanks for the info 2001 F-150 Sport,
I decided to go the steel wheel route. I ordered some black steel wheels and light truck snow tires from Discount tire. Total cost including lug nuts, center caps, rims, tires, mounting and balancing is just over $600. Hopefully they will work well. I'll let you know soon as I think we are getting some snow this week.
Thanks everyone for all the good info and opinions.
