high 12s

I have not taken my truck to the track yet but I will soon.
It came with a airraid filter when I got it.
What kind of exhaust does the L come with mine appears to have a Magnaflow cat on it... my friend says its not stock but I didnt know.

I want to get my truck into the high 12s so I can beat my friends 5.0 who is getting 13.00s

Also what is it going to take to beat a stock zo6? My friend has a zo6 and talks about how he will kill me and I want to change that

I always hear chip and pulley but I really want to be safe. This is my only daily driver right now and I dont have the $$ for a new engine

I used the search and it came up with so much information

I hear that the diablo chip is what causes a lot of problems in the L?

Thanks guys,
Jello

my truck

And what you heard is Wrong
Diablo Chips DO NOT cause problems,
nor do Super Chip, Auto Logic, etc.....
AGGRESIVE PROGRAMS CAUSE PROBLEMS

WELCOME JELLO AND BEST OF LUCK
Your cat backs are after market
Filter chip n 4-6lb Pulley will get you 12's
To consistantly beat a Z-06 you would have to
be on your game, and have a fairly aggresive tune.
Lots of us whoop Z06 butt
But they are awesome machines and from a roll, they
will dust most "lightly modded" Lightnings

which should I get 4 or 6....
As far as chips go what is the best for the money?
My L already has a filter and who knows what else

I want to get myself into the 12s and then I will worry about beating the zo6... first thing I need to beable to beat the 5.0 and be in the 12 second club

jello, For a daily driver I would go with a 4# pulley.Just for the fact that I think it's less wear and tear on the Eaton!

You can find new eatons (without drive assembly) for like $500 bucks. I'd go with the 6lb. It's not worth losing to the Z06 because you were worried about blower wear!!! Anything that wears a bowtie deserve the #$%^ing smackdown!!!!

You'll definitley need the traction bars!!

Congrats on the new L "jello". I bought mine in August, but because I live Fairbanks, Alaska I haven't been able to drive it for almost three months. All I do is stare at it in the garage and keep thinking to myself winter will be over in just 6 more months and then I can drive it again. It was -46F for most of last week, and has now warmed back up to -26F. I've been wondering what kind of boost the truck would put out at those temps, especially considering everyone says the run better when they are cold. Anyone have any guesses?

Anyway, I plan on modding my L this summer with the hopes of getting deep into the 12's. I was going to start with a 6lb pulley, Filter, FTVB, Headers, and then chip. Oh yeah, and some drag slicks. My list is actually much longer than that, but that is what I would like to do this coming summer.

Enjoy driving your new L, I wish I could enjoy driving mine right now as well.

Stick with a 4#er your not going to get anymore HP. Just more torque and our trucks have enough of that already!

If you want to be safe, then stay away from the 6lb pulley. Many many people have it and are fine. The same can be said for the 4lb pulley also.

I'd say get a chip, either a 2lb or 4lb pulley and some traction bars. With good weather and practice you will definately be in the 12's and will have not spent that much money. Then you can go from there.

if you want longevity go with a 4#

a 6# make a litle more power off the line, but te heat it generates kills the top end.
Generally by the end of a track a 4# has made up the ground the 6# had off the line.

with a 6# that eaton is generating a lot of RPM's and HEAT.
Heat kills power.

exactly how reliable can a 4# er be if I put about 20-24k a year on my lightning with a rather conservative tune...drive it hard on the street, no tracking...Ive had it for 7 months now and Ive recently passed 13k, am I dumb to mod anything at all? i would love more performance...or should I just stick to suspension and such(already got a kickbutt system) whatchall thinks??

A lot of people including myself run 6# daily drivers. It's all in the tune. Get it dyno tuned by a reputable tuner, perferably one with L experience. Watch it if it gets cold out, and you'll find out if you got a good set of rods Seriously, if you have that many hard miles on it already, you should be fine. Stock L's have broke internals. Mod up and save for tires. It's tough to beat the fun on the street with over 500 ft lbs of torque at the wheels.
